Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon

Atlanta, GA -

They've been running the Atlanta Marathon for over forty years. Well, not continuously! And the Thanksgiving tradition continues this year with over 6,000 runners expected to attend.

Atlanta Marathon

The Atlanta Marathon & Half-Marathon is the second largest road race in Atlanta, and a huge crowd favorite. Watching these superb athletes torture their bodies has become an annual Thanksgiving event for many of the city's residents! The runners competing in the Marathon will use the 1996 Olympic course that starts at Turner Field and runs down Piedmont Avenue, Peachtree Road, then loops back along Peachtree until returning to Turner Field.

Where: Turner Field & Peachtree Road

The Half-Marathon starts at the mid-point of the Marathon, at Peachtree Road just north of the Clairmont Road intersection. It's within walking distance of the Chamblee MARTA station.

A word of caution to the runners - the streets aren't closed off for the race, although the intersections will be staffed to help in traffic control.

The Marathon begins at 7am, the Half Marathon at 7:30am. Of course, runners will want to show up much earlier. The MARTA is probably the best bet for both participants and spectators.

If you're going to be in Atlanta over Thanksgiving, make your way to Downtown for this Atlanta original. It's a great way to get out and about, and there are tons of holiday shopping specials throughout the city. So bring the family and enjoy everything Atlanta has to offer! End of Article
