2008 National Black Women’s Health Conference
Health is an increasing concern in the African American community and especially among women. Disproportionate medical statistics, unhealthy lifestyles, obesity, rising healthcare costs and shirking healthcare coverage, all work against the African American woman striving to improve her health and lead a more holistic lifestyle.

In spring 2008 Black Health Magazine will be hosting the inaugural National Black Women’s Health Conference entitled, “I Am Every Woman”. The conference will be held in the beautiful city of Atlanta, Georgia, May 1-3, 2008 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. This will be an opportunity for dynamic African American women from all across the United States and beyond to come together to discuss issues affecting them.
Our goal is to target and influence African American women who are disproportionately affected by major health issues and illnesses. “It is therefore our hope this conference will create a forum for health professionals and multicultural women to come together to discuss and learn how to combat the many health issues affecting our families,” says LaMonte Jones, Director of Multicultural Marketing - Southeast Business Unit Pepsi Bottling Group. “We thank the leaders of Black Health Magazine for their trailblazing efforts to help educate the multicultural community on how to live a healthier lifestyle.”
Attendees can look forward to an exciting mix of workshops, networking opportunities and special events including a celebrity fashion, hair and make-up session. We hope to empower and enlighten African American women and help them learn to live healthy and active lives.
“The affiliated companies of UnitedHealth Group – UnitedHealthcare, Ovations and Americhoice -- are very pleased to be sponsors of this exciting and important conference,” says Nancy Oliker, Director of Community Relations for Ovations. “This conference is unique in its focus on health and well being issues that are vitally important to African American women, who traditionally put the health of their loved ones above their own. At this conference, we invite women to take time out to learn how to take greater control of their own health and get access to the care they need and deserve. In turn, they then can be better caregivers to the ones they love.”
The keynote speakers for the event are Dr. Michelle Callahan (Tyra Banks and Oprah Winfrey shows), Dr. Celeste Clark of the Kellogg’s Company, Dr. Rogsbert Phillips (Breast Cancer Specialist) and Dr. Lynn PerryBottinger (Cardiologist). In addition, the session speakers are embellished with tremendous accolades including Mrs. Xernona Clayton of the Trumpet Awards Foundation.
Corporate Sponsors for the conference include The Pepsi Bottling Group, UnitedHealthcare, Ovations, Americhoice, Verizon, Kellogg’s, State Farm, Proctor and Gamble, McDonald’s USA, Centers for Disease Control, Pfizer, FDA Office of Women’s Health and Abbott Labs.
Attendees will have a chance to win a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350. This beautiful vehicle will be raffled among Conference attendees during the banquet on Saturday night. Rules and restrictions concerning the vehicle are found on the conference website.
