Real Men Cook

Real Men Cook (RMC) For Charity Atlanta, the largest and longest running Father's Day Celebration, will be held on Sunday, June 15 at the Georgia Railroad Depot next to Underground Atlanta from 3-6 p.m. Food, fun and family will be the order of the day as more than 100 men serve up culinary delights for nearly 2,000 guests. Entertainment includes R&B artist, Tony Terry, Hank Stewart of Five Men On A Stool, and jazz singer Myrna Clayton. Terrell Carter of Tyler Perry films will be there along with actress Demetria McKinney (House of Payne).

"We are excited to once again showcase the skills of the men of Atlanta while assisting local charities with marketing and fundraising. We are proud to have Communities In Schools, Soul Food Museum and the Lupus Foundation of America Georgia Chapter as our charity partners for 2008," says Diane Larche´, RMC Atlanta event manager. "In addition to the food, entertainment, and activities, we have loads of giveaways for our guests."

The Bahamas Tourist Board will give away a free trip to the Bahamas, Home Depot will award a free Weber Grill and The Neilsen Company will present a flat screen TV as a door prize and State Farm will award a free gift card.

"The Father's Day event is a great opportunity for Atlanta residents to honor strong men and it allows men from all walks of life to show off their culinary skills. Some of the cooks are a bit competitive, but it's all in fun," said Kevin Ashford, founder of Catered Cakes and RMC Atlanta Spokesman. "We're still recruiting cooks, volunteers and sponsors for the event," Ashford adds.

"We are also pleased to have so many stalwarts in our community agree to serve as honorary chairmen for the event," adds LarcheŽ. "We have Hartsfield Jackson International Airport General Manager Ben DeCosta, Cascade United Methodist Church Senior Pastor Rev. Marvin Moss, Georgia Power Manager Nelson Geter, Congressman John Lewis, Ambassador Andrew Young, and Mayor Shirley Franklin, to name a few."

Radio One Station Manager Frank Johnson, State Senator Emanuel Jones, Judge Marvin Arrington Sr., Attorney Marvin Arrington Jr., and V103's Reggie Rouse are also honorary chairmen.

RMC Atlanta 2008 sponsors include State Farm, Home Depot, The Nielsen Company, WSB-TV Family 2 Family Project, Radio One, Waffle House, Bahamas Tourist Board, Georgia Power, Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Turner & Associates, Atlanta Magazine and Federal Home Loan Bank.
