Atlanta's Sheep to Shawl Day

Atlanta, GA -

Green Acres comes to Atlanta in this one-day event that entertains and informs the public about nature and farming.

Atlanta's Sheep to Shawl Day

Similar to the Gulf Coast's Goat Day celebration, the Atlanta History Center hosts an afternoon full of farm activities entitled Sheep to Shawl Day…and as the name implies, the honorary guest is our gentle friend the sheep. Visitors to the center will get an extensive education on the process of turning a sheep's coat into a wonderful article of clothing.

Atlanta's Sheep to Shawl Day
April 19, 2008
Where: Atlanta History Center

The demonstration includes a step-by-step transformation from fresh wool, to a lovely shawl fit for a Queen. Come learn the complete process as we go from "Sheep to Shawl!" You can observe the sheering of the sheep, participate in hands-on activities such as cleaning and carding the wool, see spinning demonstrations making the wool into yarn and dying demonstrations of the yarn, all of which result in the end result of a lovely woven, knitted or crocheted shawl!

Explore the period outbuildings, including the blacksmith's shop, and tour the gardens. Learn about open-hearth cooking. Kids can enjoy toy demonstrations and games and then meet the farm animals.

Displays are ongoing throughout the day. This is one "Baaaad" day of fun! End of Article
