Wedding invitations are handled by the Mrs., along with purchasing the gifts and cards. My responsibility is getting us to and from the event. This particular November wedding was located in Gwinnett County Georgia, quite a distance from where we reside so we decided to make it a Weekend Getaway.

As I began my search for hotels and attractions the Mrs. looked at the computer screen, looked at me and said, "Pick a hotel that's close to Discover Mills." I had no idea what Discover Mills was, just shook my head and said, "Sure thing." At that point all hotel searches ceased and my Google search for Discover Mills returned just as I suspected; just knew it had to do with shopping. Boy did it ever!

A 1,200,000-square-foot, single story shopping mall in Lawrenceville, Georgia with over 180 specialty retailers. 13 anchors as well as a variety of theme restaurants, casual dining and entertainment venues. Her dream-come-true and my nightmare.

As I was searching for hotels in Gwinnett I noticed the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) has a AA local team, the Gwinnett Gladiators that will be playing at home that same weekend. No Discover Mills for me!

In close locale to both sporting venues (trust me, a mall is a sporting venue to the Mrs.) and to the wedding ceremony and reception I chose the Marriott Gwinnett Place located right off I-85. (I didn't tell the Mrs. it is also located directly across the highway from Gwinnett Place Mall. She's going to get a good a surprise 'shopping workout' that will score me some points!

A friendly, quick and easy check-in and to the elevators where we were reminded that our room keys were needed for elevator access. A very nice additional security feature.

The rooms were bright and spacious with comfy furniture and accessories that appear to be brand new and make you feel at home vs. a commercial design feeling.
I seldom mention much about a hotel bathroom; they're all pretty much the same to me. Here however; applause to the above average height of the shower head and the terrific water pressure for a tall guy like me. The Mrs. bragged about the fact that she packed an entire bag of toiletries and never used a one as she raved about the aromatherapy toiletries in the bathroom. A truly wonderful hotel room.

With so many plans and so little time to get them all we didn't have a chance to use the inviting indoor/outdoor pool and oversized workout area. We did manage to stop into Buttons Lounge prior to dinner; multiple TV's, pool tables, games, my kind of place, and a great hangout before the Mrs. hit the mall across the highway. I stayed at Buttons and with beverage and munchies in hand watching all the football games.

Who knew a wedding could be so much fun?
