In the US, Travelers Checks are almost universally
accepted. Foreign visitors should purchase these checks in their
own country for the best rate.
Foreign Currency:
You can exchange currency at most commercial
banks with proper ID. Travelers should call the bank to determine
whether exchanges are made immediately.
ATM Machines:
ATM machines are readily available in Atlanta.
ATM users can check the reverse side of their card to find out which
bank systems accept the card. ATM information is found in the GTE
Yellow Pages under Banks. Exact locations of ATMs accepting your
card can be obtained from your bank before leaving home.
Emergency Cash:
Cash may be obtained from many commercial banks
with a MasterCard, Visa or American Express Gold Card on which the
cardholder has cash advance privileges.
Travelers should investigate this possibility before leaving home. Advance arrangements with your home bank can enable you to receive funds by wire transfer, usually within the same day for US travelers, and at least 24 hours for Canadians.
Check cashing services are listed in the telephone book yellow pages. Western Union funds transfers are available, but clients should verify whether the office used can intercede at a local bank if the funds are remitted by Western Union check rather than cash.
