Two sides to a coin, 2008-04-18

As a fan of good sushi and sashimi, and Japanese food in general, Mikato is a definite double-sided coin. On one side, you have the flashy steakhouse "performance" (during which I had hot oil accidentally sprayed in my face and a drunk man I didn't know at the table shouting obscenities at his girlfriend) resulting in standard hibachi fare. On the other side, you have the Panama City Beach area's finest full service sushi bar. My advice: If you like good, authentic sushi please please stick to the excellent sushi half of the location. If you like dining with strangers and the whole hokey "performance" aspect of Japanese steakhouses, by all means, head over to the other side.

Mikato's has a great show, and good food for a one time visit, 2007-06-17

This place was fun! You are seated on the edge of a big square counter with approx 18 other people. One side consists of people just seated. The other is people ready for the main course. The chef turns to the 9 people ready for the main course, and starts his show. He engages you into conversation with him and the other people on your side, while he does tricks with his utensils and food. Each chef has his own routine. The food was very good, all cooked with your choice of meat. The rice was especially good. There isn't much variety in the food, and even though it was excellent, I wasn't too interested in going a second time. EXCEPT maybe to see all the chef's acts which were all different and very entertaining.

If you like hibachi chefs, these guys ROCK. They are not only entertaining, but engaging with customers and serious about serving you a great meal....and if you want Sushi -- you have very few choices on the beach - and this is one of the best! Take the family, friends or that special someone and enjoy wonderful Asian cuisine in a delightful atomosphere!

Our 7 yr old daughter's favorite restaurant! Lots of fun and great food! Hibachi chefs entertain you while they cook your food. Just make sure you plan on being there for about 2 hours... it takes a long time.

Mikatos review, 2005-01-24

They are the only restaurant to do traditional Sushi on the beach. They also have a hibachi grill so taking someone for a first date means you dont have to do all of the entertaining. I've met some of my best friends sitting at the same hibachi, its fun and funny. With great sushi and a long list of extras, a trip to PC means a stop at Mikatos.
