Among the many reasons to give Pompano's a try are the great sushi bar (featuring many inspired rolls but not enough sashimi), the perfectly cooked steaks, and the pond-side ambiance. Once known as the Kona-Kai Polynesian Restaurant in the olden days of the Emerald Coast, Pompano's is a bold reinvention of Floridian tastes.

New Sushi Bar, 2007-09-28

I recently returned to Pompano's for an evening of sushi with friends and was dissapointed to learn that the sushi bar has been moved to another location within the restaurant. In its original configuration their sushi bar was an exclusive experience and mostly separate from the rest of the restaurant; the new sushi bar feels like a restaurant with a touch of sushi thrown in and I do not care for it as much. In addition, and more importantly, although the two gentlemen that were preparing our sushi tried hard and were focused on their work, it was painfully obvious in the their delivery and presentation that they have had little to no training on the proper way to make and serve sushi... and that's too bad. We used to enjoy going there.

I've been eating here a while (a local) and especially enjoyed the sushi bar area just inside the front door ... was disappointed to see they moved it back into the restaurant, no atmosphere now... also, the night I went the guys didn't seem to have the training, we had to redirect in some instances ... everything tasted ok, but I can't rave about it to others as I have in the past...

Pompano’s was the first restaurant I ate at upon my arrival in Panama City Beach way back in 1980. It was great then, it is great now. The restaurant sits on a small lake with seating facing the water or you can sit inside in well-decorated comfort. The rather large menu has an excellent seafood section, and also family favorites such as burgers, and chicken tenders. The seafood is top notch; my favorite is the fried blue crab claws, and the Tropical Coconut Shrimp. The sushi bar is excellent. Seating is ample but in the middle of the tourist season it can get crowded so get there early. Prices are reasonable, portions are plentiful, and the atmosphere is homey.

I really loved this restaurant, so much that I want to go there again when we visit next week. We had a wonderful waitress and the atmosphere was great. They have a tiki hut type atmosphere, really neat. Not to mention they have great sushi and pina colada's. I would rate this restaurant 5 stars!

Added 5/18/07: Man, I just gotta say we had a great meal at Pompano's last weekend. We took the moms out for Mother's Day and had a great experience. We were told it would be a 45 min wait for 6 of us and it ended up being 30 mins. Our waiter (Edward, I think) was attentive and helpful. Service was spot on. We didn't get any sushi this time, but the other food was great. I had the Cajun Grill (mahi and shrimp) and it was very good. I tasted a couple of the other dishes and they were great, too. We had Oysters Rockefeller and fried mozzarella for apps. Desert was huge - we shared a piece of Red Velvet Cake and a piece of Chocolate Cake betwen 6 of us. The prices may be a little higher than average for comparable places in PCB, but it was worth it since we got good food and service. Our bill for 4 adults and 2 kids was $160. We'll definitely be back for more this summer. Next time we'll try the sushi bar. Added in 2006: Pompano's reputation is well-deserved. The food is top notch. Their signature dish, Grouper Panama, is out of this world! Look forward to eating here again soon!

My family and I have been eating at Pompano's for over the last 10 years. It was always one of our favorite restaurants along with Capt. Andersons. Lately though my last couple of visits some changes have occured. They no longer serve 1000 island salad dressing, which is my family favorite. They no longer have baked potatoes or french fries, just mashed potaotes. They also charge extra for Coke refills and extra bread. Food was good but not as good as I remember with the other changes.

Need I say more? I've eaten sushi many places in Panama City Beach (just about everywhere that serves it), and Pompano's has been the BEST by far. The service was great, the Sushi Chefs are ADORABLE, and it was overall a really good experience. The atmosphere is nice, but not at all stuffy, and like I already the sushi was amazing. I highly recommend the Panama City Roll and the Gator Roll (yum - tempura gator tail in a roll!) From what I hear the rest of the menu is just as great.

The thing we really like about Pompano's is that it's a very 'comfortable' restaurant. Good food, casual atmosphere, and a very pleasant dining experience. It's the kind of place that makes you feel good about your night out.

I love Pompanos. They have been cooking great seafood for years and continue to do it better and better. The menu has some of the best selections in the Panhandle. The Grouper Panama is their signature dish and I swear I've seen 10 different restaurants try to duplicate it. They also have a sushi bar with some of the most amazing American style sushi you've ever had. Get there early to beat the crowd, but get there!!
