I haven't visited this zoo since Katrina, but when I went it was an excellent zoo...one of the best I've ever been too.

My family and I enjoyed the Zoo. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking. Good representation of different continent wildlife. You might consider combining the zoo visit with something else if you want to get a good deal. We bought a pass that got us into the acquarium, a riverboat ride to and from the zoo to Jackson square. Good way to make a day of it.

First I'll start with something good: The habitats were really nice. Far better than the average zoo and the animals looked comfortable. But, when we were there, they had 3 or 4 exhibits closed, including the Lion exhibit that we were all looking forward to. Then, we stopped to get ice cream and they ran out of all flavors but one, ran out of change and we had to wait 15 mins for someone to run and get more... then they ran out of napkins! On top of that, a bridge was closed and there was lots of construction and detours. The carousel and the train were closed for the day. That really upset the kids. All of this on Memorial Day weekend! I don't understand why all of this would be going on during a big holiday weekend. There were lots of people there and we heard several negative comments regarding the same stuff we were unhappy with. I don't think we'll be going back to the zoo. We had much more fun at the Aquarium and exploring the French Quarter.
