Ok, so we can't all have an Aunt Adelaide (sigh) though she sure sounds like a lot of fun. But anyone can walk into the Loews Hotel and live it up in her honor, and maybe sip a few too many cocktails along the way. I am not normally a cocktail person, I do wine, but I couldn't resist the hand-shaved ice and the artfully blended and shaken masterpieces here. Plus, we were sent a "tree" of samples, and I got lost in the delirious fun of it. This is cocktail heaven. The bartenders are true experts who could shake circles around most. Cafe Adelaide is, luckily, a mere few steps away (swaying, staggering) and the cuisine is excellent. Try the oyster and artichoke cake! I seem to remember the wine list was good enough to beckon through my cocktail haze and convert me back.

Normally when you enter a beautiful hotel, you expect a great bar or restuarant, but when you inter the Loews hotel in New Orleans and walk through teh lobby lounge right into the Cafe Adelaide's bar, you will not be able to pass it without first witnessing that the bartenders are having so much fun you must stop and have a drink with them. Once you sit down and begin to drink in the confort of the room, your drink shows up with the service of a fine dining restaurant. But the service is not the gem, it's the drink. These guys have bartenders, but they are so serious about their drinks they have what they call a Drink Chef. If you want to try something new, just ask the bartender to just create something for you. Don't take my word for it, just drop by and you'll see for yourself. Once you're filled with drink, drop in on the restaurant side of the house and you'll be equally pleased.

Looking for a hip bar for some great cocktails? Here it is! If you get anywhere in the area of the Loews hotel, you must stop in Cafe Adelaide. It's a great meeting place, we just meet there for a drink after our board meeting and it was perfect. There are places to talk or listen to the piano bar. You can order some of there amazing food at the bar as well. My very favorite drink was the French 75, ask for Michael! He made the best. The staff is friendly, not snob at all! It's such a cool place you feel like you are in a classic movie while sipping on your cocktails. Don't think of this as a hotel bar, because the locals don't, it's just a great place to meet up with people for a cocktail or two. Whatever you do, don't try to drink more than 2 French 75, cause you will forget the rest of your evening!
