Owned and operated by the famous Brennan family of New Orleans, Commander’s Palace retains its place at the top of the restaurant scene by staying one... or two steps ahead on the culinary scene. Always known as innovators, the Brennans and Commander’s Palace developed many of our favorite dining traditions which, at the time of their creation, were unheard of....This is the home of the first Blackened Redfish - the dish that started the “blackened” craze.Ella Brennan “invented” Bananas Foster; now a classic, world wide, Bananas Foster is even listed in Webster’s Dictionary! This is the family that introduced the world to Milk Punch... Jazz Brunch... and the awesome Bread Pudding Souffle! The number one restaurant in America for over 15 years.

Commander’s Palace.. Sunday, we went to Commander’s Palace for brunch. It was our first time there even though this was our 30th trip down to NOLA. The food was divine, however I did have to send back my barbeque shrimp appetizer, the shrimp were a bit raw. Fried oysters were very good. My dish was shrimp with angel hair pasta which was just okay. My husband’s steak was unbelievable, the melding of the flavors. He didn’t even need a steak knife to cut it. Creole cheesecake for desert was okay.. The service was a bit off, waiting for cocktails took quite awhile. However, they were extremely busy. The place was packed. The chef signed our menu for my Mom’s birthday, “Keep Eating Creole.” We would definitely return again.

Being from New Orleans, I had the opportunity to eat at the Palace many times in the 60s, 70s and 80s. But after joining the military and moving away for 20 plus years I had not gone back. In March of this year my wife and I took the opportunity to enjoy a bit of New Orleans history and dine at one of the truly fabulous restaurants in the Big Easy. The decor was mostly as I remembered it, clean, quaint, sophisticated. We chose to eat outside and were treated like royalty. The gumbo and spiced fish were unbelievable with the signature flavor profiles that keep you talking about your experience for years. This is one stop you absolutely, under no circumstances want to miss on your next trip to New Orleans. Laissez les bon temps roulette!

I had high expectations going in, because this place is such a legend, and while Commander's Palace was still in its re-opening stages and ironing out the wrinkles of a difficult time, it still came through as an especially wonderful restaurant on earth. I like how it is grand, but doesn't take itself so very seriously. It has whimsical touches and a light-hearted spirit. The food was great, from the chunky crab salad appetizer to the bread pudding souffle–––what a finale. Do not miss it! This is a destination restaurant, and that can sometimes lead to disappointment, but Commander's really is what you expect, and more.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I have a tendency to use superlatives, but trust me - I'm not exaggerating... Commander's Palace is truly the most wonderful restaurant in the world! The best service, the most incredible food, the most colorful, comfortable and rare setting - one of a kind!
