HarborWalk Charters, 2010-04-09

Today, as a last minute whim I took my family for a 4 hour charter on the Barracouda. I decided to go with HarborWalk Charters because they could get me in last minute. There is a reason they do not book out 1 week in advance as other charters do. The cost was $560 plus a 20% first mate tip. We spent about 2 1/2 hours "looking for fish" then about a 1/2 hour fishing for small fish that most people would consider bait. The rest of the time was spent going back to the dock. At the end of the hosing the first mate, Josh, had the nerve to tell us not to mention to other people that we had an extra 1 hour. We got back 30 minutes late. We caught 1 hand full of fish. By that I mean the equivalant of fish that can fit into your fist. Not 5 that we could keep. It was fun being together as a family but this crew did little as far as bait hooks or work for it whats so ever. Josh said he used to work for a commercial fisherman and was probably fired for lack of production and I feel Captain Jason lacked the experience to know where to look for fish and we turned up jack. By far the worst fishing experience we have ever had. Charter $560; Tip $110; memories hopefully gone by tomorrow. Hope this helps others. Please check the experience and rating of your charter BEFORE spending you hard earned money!

Harbor Walk-"One of a Kind", 2009-01-25

I just want to let people know the kind of business Harborwalk is running. Last May we booked a private fishing charter for my bachelor party on "One of a Kind". I'll try to keep this short. As we waited on the boat for about 10 minutes, and after no formal greeting from the captain, we eventually asked when we would be leaving. The first mate then informed us that we were waiting on two more people. This was a suprise to us, seeing as our group was on the boat. Apparently, Harborwalk had done a promotion for a free full day of fishing for 2. Little did we know, that they planned to put their contest winners on our private charter, and have us pay for their promotion. Needless to say, this got us off to a rough start with the captain and crew. We decided to go with it, since we were there to fish and enjoy ourselves. Then the captain proceeded to tell us that there were 8 foot swells and we would have to stay inland. There were no 8 foot swells in the gulf that day, and this guy just wanted to stay inland to save gas. We booked a private charter for offshore sports fishing, and we got hosed. After less than an hour, we told the captain to take us back in. It was the most unbelievalbe and unprofessional experience I have ever had. Save yourself the trouble, and book with a real charter business. These people are not trustworthy.
