Alonzos: Ok in afternoon, AWFUL at night!!!, 2011-01-26

We've found a lack of consistency here. In the afternoon, the food is good, quality is good, service is good. We've never had a bad experience in the afternoon. However, I strongly advise everyone not to go at night. We went on the Friday before Fantasy Fest, and on Friday the 26th of November, and another night recently. (I don't even know why we went the other night after the two previous awful experiences.) I don't know what the deal is with the evening staff, but we've had horrible experiences every time at night. They can't even fry food - it comes out as flour-y , cold mush. Even fresh seafood seems poorly prepared at night. I can't get over how a single restaurant can be good in the afternoon and not at night. It would appear to be a management problem. There's also a problem with the ambiance...the place is loud, with no sound absorption whatsoever. If someone near you has kids or a table of drunks, heaven forbid, there is zero chance of a peaceful meal.

The buffalo shrimp are so exciting. I am sure everyone who reads this who likes things a little spicy will not be disappointed if they follow my lead. The staff are so efficient and drop dead ggorgeous that I will come back here and tip more than the usual european 10%. I have lived in the States for 5 years and I wish that everyone from my native country would understand they have to tip 20% to make everyone happpy. That is the least the waitstaff desreve. They work for tips only so please be generous to my fellow Europeans.

Before there were choices in Key West for fine dining, there was the A & B. It was elegant. It served a turtle soup and lobster Thermidor. It had a dance floor. Imagine all those elegant ladies and gentlemen of the Tennessee Williams sort who sashayed through the rooms, and you've got an idea of the flair, the serious class of the A & B, right on the historic waterfront. Today, there's no turtle soup, but it's been updated by seriously delicious, crave-inducing "pan-roasts", and you can still find a classic shrimp cocktail and the greatest variety of fresh seafood around. Great for an event, and great for a casual, comfortable dinner. That's Key West for you, and that's the A& B.

A fabulous dining experience at the A&B, 2005-08-11

The warm breeze off the water added a special touch to what was already a lovely dining experience. The A&B is fine dining at it's best. Every dish from the salad to the lobster bisque and the extrodinary fish with white bean ragout was excellent. This restaurant will stay on my must-do list whenever I'm in Key West. Don't leave Key West without dining at A&B.
