This is definitely the place to be. Whether you go for drinks at the bar or lunch, Sunday brunch or dinner, the food is consistently exquisite, not your everyday run of the mill, boring menu. They always put a different and delicious spin on their dishes. The sushi bar serves the best sushi I've ever had. This place is right on Grand Lagoon with a beautiful view as you watch the boats come in! Don't miss it!

We love the Boatyard - what else can I say? The staff is always great and we have our favorite waiters and bartenders too. If you're lucky enough to have Kalim as your waiter, you're guaranteed to have a good time. The Fish Tacos are yummy, the Grilled Grouper Sandwich is perfect with the small fried onions and you can't go wrong with the fresh catch and black beans and rice. Oh, yes and sushi! The wine has been carefully selected by a local Sommelier. It's a beautiful place to enjoy really good food, really good drinks and really close friends.

We had a $25 voucher for our choice of restaurants in historic East end PCB. Schooner's was very crowded with a long wait, Capt. Anderson's was too fancy (3 kids in party) so we decided to give Boatyard a whirl, strictly based on it's location. We all wished we had sat through the wait at Schooner's. The BY wasn't bad, it just wasn't good and was pretty pricey ($175 for a party of 7 including 3 kids, 1 beer, no dessert). The best thing we had were the cheese sticks off kids menu. Thai Shrimp fritters were chewy shrimp wrapped in a wonton, no garlic nor ginger and they were anything but crispy and my husband's steak was a big chunk of fat. (Save comments about getting steak at a seafood place-the night before we ate at AJ's in Destin and their steak was off the hook! No pun intended). It was hot, (I know it's August, we expected that), it was crowded sitting at table right next to outside bar, it was dark, it was expensive, the tea was terrible (even provoking a comment from 11 yo). Overall, I couldn't in good conscience recommend it to anyone, friend or foe. Good luck to them - but we won't be back.

My husband and I just got home from a week in PCB ... we always try to get over to Boatyard if possible as it is unique, has wonderful food, and a beautiful view of the lagoon. I just read the last review and I'm sorry but I can't imagine -- we ate there this weekend as well and had our usual great service and food... we got sushi first, although the waitress told us to expect a delay because they were a little backed up .. it was worth the wait! Then my husband had shrimp/grits and I had keylime shrimp .. yum. We were full, but decided to share the key lime pie on a stick and were glad we did. Its a great atmosphere and I don't think its loud at all.. I enjoy Capt Anderson's on occasion, but talk about loud, plus they move you in and out so quickly you feel rushed. Anyway, kudos to Boatyard for always making our visit to PCB enjoyable ! (PS- someone needs to fire that Schooners person ! hah!)

Reply to Tomh: First, let me say that I am one of the owners of Boatyard and Schooners. Second, I’d like to say that I love Capt. Anderson’s, too! We were recently there for a milestone birthday in my family, and I’m glad to hear that our employees recommend Capt. Anderson’s to our guests. They should! Capt. Anderson’s is a landmark, and they have earned the loyalty of millions. In comparison, Boatyard is a relatively young restaurant and, despite the fact that we’ve got a GREAT team led by a tremendously talented chef who is VERY ‘hands on’ every night, we make mistakes sometmes. We try VERY hard to do a great job for our guests, and I think if you read the rest of the reviews on this site, you will see that, for the most part, we deliver great food with excellent service in a truly spectacular setting. We have had our share of growing pains over the last 6 years, but we are proud of how far we’ve come. I’m sure we will make a few more mistakes in the future as we continue to learn and grow and try new things, but please believe me… we take this VERY personally – we LOVE what we do, and we want nothing more than to deliver excellence on every level. TomH, I hope you will allow us to apologize and attempt to make it up to you. It’s terrible to have such expectations at such an important event for your family and to be disappointed. I am so sorry. If you will give us another chance, we will NOT let you down again. I do not have your email address, but if you will contact me or Konrad Jochum at Boatyard (info@boatyardclub.com or 850-249-9273), we would love to try to make it up to you. And, again, we are very sorry – we have looked into the matter, and we are taking steps to ensure that it will never happen to anyone else.

My extended family and I (2 kids under 9, my wife and my sister and her husband, and my two parents) decided to break tradition and forego Captain Anderson’s for the Boatyard for my father’s 76th birthday celebration while vacationing in PCB on April 23, 2010. We had heard from many people in the area that the Boatyard was the place to go. Unfortunately, we had a negative experience there. The night before, we went to Schooners for live music and drinks, and the waiter there even told us that from a food perspective, Captain Anderson’s surpasses the quality of food at the Boatyard – and we still went because of the other reviews. We found the restaurant to be very loud and the service was terrible. If the policy had not been “automatic 18% gratuity for parties of 8 or more”, I would not have left a tip. Our waiter was very overwhelmed and inexperienced and completely inattentive to our needs. He never came around to check on us, he screwed up my wife’s and brother-in-law’s salmon order, he forgot to submit the sushi appetizer order but charged us anyway, and he never asked if we wanted another drink after the first round. If I were the owner of this place, I would have been livid with my employee not doing his job to get us to purchase more. I ordered the fried grouper platter and it was average. I could not have been more disappointed with the overall experience. The only reason why I give it 2 stars on this scale is because (1) I’m a nice guy and (2) my mother was horrified when I told her that I was going to write a review on this and other sites to prevent people from making the same mistake. If you’re a single party person, I guess you’d like this place for the loud and open atmosphere. I can’t believe I spent $250 on dinner. What a waste. Overall, this was one of the absolute most negative dining experiences I have ever encountered anywhere. I should have listened to the waiter at Schooners (and folks, please know that Schooners is owned by the same place as the Boatyard – and its own employee recommended Captain Anderson’s over the Boatyard). What an idiot I was! PCB is one of the greatest places on earth but I would think twice before going to the Boatyard.

When it comes to enjoying Grand Lagoon, few places better personify that than Boatyard. There just aren't that many places that take a chance on opening themselves up to the elements, but from my point of view, it's just awesome to be soemwhere that's as "outside" as can be with stunning views all around. The best time to catch the real Boatyard is at dusk...an icy cold Baybreeze or frozen daiquiri and some of those "killer" steamed shrimp, (chilled and served in a martini glass) always hit the spot. I also enjoy the big conch fritters served with a red pepper jelly and a separate wasabi dip. I like being outside...I like eating outside and I always enjoy drinking outside. Lately, the food on the menu side has gone through some changes. I usually attend the tastings on Friday upstairs for a taste of things to come. What impresses me most, is these folks are making an attempt to be a step better than the usual "fried fish palace" that seems to be the norm in Panama City. I'm NOT into fried food and I'm grateful Boatyard is trying to be a step above. Evereything is going in the right direction and when the "dusting" settles, I'll be glad to see it on a perfectly sauteed piece of grouper or dolphin! I say, keep up the good work and keep experimenting...it takes guts to try harder and I for one appreciate the effort!

Of course, we had to get in on all the "Lobzilla" fun and tried the "Lobster of the Angels" and Crispy Lobster & Sweet Corn Hushpuppies. It was all good-and what a great price! Loved the Cilantro Mahi-Mahi and California Sushi Roll, too! Chef Konrad even stopped by our table to tell us all about our delectable dishes-what a pleasant, interesting gentleman he is! Our "encore" meal at Boatyard consisted of MORE "Lobster of the Angels" and "Shrimp and Grits" with Macadamia Nut Cheesecake for Dessert. What a feast and what a place-Boatyard is our favorite! If you haven’t dined at Boatyard since it first opened its doors it may be time to give it another try. I first experienced Boatyard a few years ago, and while I loved everything else about it from the staff to the setting I felt that the food was lacking that magical quality that would make me crave a second helping. On Friday I had lunch at Boatyard and every day since have wanted to go back. I was extremely impressed with the selection and creativity found on the menu. The menu here is not a copycat of every other seafood joint in town, while the traditional items make the cut there are many other items offering something a bit different. This makes it easy for everyone in your party to find their new favorite from the “Grilled Ham and Brie Pannini” to “The Fried Shrimp You Can’t Live Without”. I had the “Seared Grouper Tacos” with melon salsa, which were the best fish tacos I’ve ever tasted. I was skeptical at first to toss the fruity salsa on my tacos but next time I will ask for an additional cup. The portion sizes are large-, which works since you won’t want to stop eating. Currently, Boatyard is running a frequent lunch reward program- for every 5 times you dine during lunch (and have your card stamped) the 6th lunch is free. To coincide with this program is an Express Lunch Special- consisting of a daily lunch item served in 15 minutes for $7.00 from 11am to 4pm.

The food was great, margaritas and mojitos the best I ever had, and the bartenders and servers were extremely hospitable. I would highly recommend this to those vacationing on Panama City Beach!

The girl rolled her eyes and stormed off like that was really too much work. We ordered food and both orders were wrong... REAL WRONG. They apparently can't tell a fish sandwich from a cheeseburger. Then we were told that IS what we ordered. We sent it back, went to Schooners and enjoyed a great meal which is what we should have done in the first place.

On my last visit to PCB, I actually ate at Boatyard three times. I really noticed the service. I was seated right away, and twice I was dining alone at first, and the waitstaff took really good care of me (drink refills, lots of checking in). They were prompt & on top of it, and no they didn't know who I was (smile). The food I ordered was noticeably fresh–––in fact the salad greens were fresher than some I had at "fine dining" restaurants on the same trip. I asked for a salad with grouper (not on the menu) and they complied, and it was grilled moist, not dry, and well-seasoned. On another visit, a special smoked salmon appetizer was tasty, fresh–––all in all what you'd expect at a fine dining restaurant. The fish tacos are, always, so mysteriously good I can't explain it. But I love them. I can comment on the slaw that comes on the side (yum) but not the sweet potato fries because since I eat myself into a coma when I order them, they're so good, I make myself not order them. But YOU should try the sweet potato fries. Also, I have to add that the cocktails are made with fresh oj (you have to ask & insist, but they will do it) and there is my favorite French white, Chassagne Montrachet on the menu. So when I walk in, the light and fresh air streaming in through the open walls, and I know I've got all that to look forward to, it just makes me want to be back as soon as possible. See you next time I'm there, Boatyard!

Boatyard is rife with potential, but my three tips there over the past several years have been filled with disappointment. The locations and views from the perimeter seating are excellent, as are the descriptions of many items on Chef Konrad's menu. Unfortunately, the fried selections are often nearly burnt, and my ahi tuna was, for whatever reason, essentially tasteless. Servers range from mildly interested young guys to dispassionate model-quality foreign girls. Drunken locals can often be found at the bar. I can recommend Boatyard for Konrad's BLT (bacon, lobster and tomato) and the views, but everything else is a risky proposition.

Boatyard is situated at a beautiful location overlooking the water... great boats, great atmosphere, and if you go during the off season, great service and food. I've been to the restaurant several times in the past month to find that they're very busy... I don't mind the wait for a table, but when I go up to the bar, that's not crowded and don't even get acknowleged in the 20 minutes where i have my wallet on the table, one has to begin to question the speed of service. Their menu has noticibly shrunk... absent are my two favorite dishes- the popcorn shrimp platter (somehow it's still on the kids menu) and thier signature item, the Lobster BLT. Appearantly the BLT is now only offered at lunch time, which is no good for people who are only able to visit this restaurant at dinner. The restaurant used to have an element of elegance to it with blue glasses (which they even talk about on their tv commercials) but now those are replaced with your plain old, run of the mill pizza hut style plastic coca cola cups. I will continue to visit the restaurant, but a place in my heart will miss the restaurant this place used to be when it first opened.

When you drive up to the Boatyard, the first thing you see is this huge building. Then you walk through the hallway to the hostess stand to be seated and you're greeted by beautiful young people who are smiling and seem to be happy to have you there. That's important. Once you feel welcome somewhere the food only tastes better after that. But no matter you get there...boat, taxie, car, or helicopter (just kidding..there's no landing pad), you will enjoy the most comforting view lined by some of the most spectacular boats you will find on the coast. The menu is great and varied, but the BLT get's the most rage. Personally, I prefer the grouper ro the fried shrimp. Either way, you won't be disappointed. Not hungry...sit at the state of the art bar and sip on your favorite cocktail. You won't want to leave.

I ordered the fried oysters which were pretty good but quite expensive. The beer selection is quite good and one of the few places I've been that has a decent selection of premium beers. The service was quite bad here though. Even though it was only early on a Monday evening with only about a half filled bar where I was sitting, the two bartenders had to be flagged down if me and my buddy wanted any service. The food we ordered came out in decent time and as I said earlier was fairly good. After we finished eating the bartender picked up my plate and knocked over my beer on the counter, said sorry and but it back in front of me. She did not even attempt to offer to replace the now half foam half liquid beer before taking off. She then had to be flagged down again so we could pay our bill because I was ready to leave. My bill came to almost $30 for a plate of fried oysters and french fries and 2 bottles of Sam Adams. I was quite shocked by the very poor service, uncomfortable chairs, and high price of this resturant. The service and the price will probably keep me from going to the Boatyard again.

I saw "Boatyard" advertised on tv while vacationing in Panama City this past weekend. I couldn't wait to try it. Casual dining, affordable prices, amazing ambience and fabulously delicious food. Who could ask for anything more? My friend and I had Hot Crab Dip, Fried Crab Claws, Caesar Salad and Dixie Oyster Salad at one of the outdoor tables at the dock, where we watched the Pirate Ship pull in from an evening cruise. We had excellent service and a lovely time. I will definitely go back to BOATYARD.

Bad Service, food and drinks, 2006-07-17
Reviewed By:  mommy1203

I am not usually one to criticize, but, the service we received and the food (if that's what you want to call it) was, at best, intolerable. I was expecting moist and tender for fresh seafood, not dry and hard. For drinks, two of us ordered frozen drinks which came to us on the "crushed" rocks which quickly became watery messes. One of us ordered the Fried Grouper, to which the server attempted to serve the Grouper sandwich and I excitedly ordered the Mahi Mahi to which I received a fillet of burned up and hard fish (no idea what kind exactly)! After myself, my daughter, my niece and my father finished our meals, my mother's grouper finally arrived without the sweet potato fries she'd asked for. My father told the waiter to bring her another drink and he's pay for it if he needed to. Our waiter then proceeded to go downstairs to another bar where he returned with a truly frozen drink. My drink was, at best, watery and weak. My advice, get a better upstairs bartender. Finally, at the end of the meal, we got a ticket for $90!?!? This included only my mahi mahi, her grouper, and an adult order of chicken tenders along with a childs order! It also reflected the SECOND frozen drink which, to say the least was surprising!! The service here was not good, nor was the food. The server messed up everything from our drink orders to our food orders and then we were forced to wait over 20 minutes(with a two year old) for them to bring the correct item out to my mom. ALL that being said, you'd think they would have AT LEAST "comped" the meal that they messed up, even without comping the other frozen drink but no, nothing. It was $90 dollars completely wasted as we all returned to the condo to eat ham sandwiches!?!?!

indimamasue, I am so sorry about the mosquito problem. This is the first I have heard of this. Honestly, as one of the owners of Boatyard, I am accustomed to dealing with all sorts of problems - (today, for example, we're dealing with Hurricane Katrina), and I thought I had heard them all, but this is a first. I have made a copy of your review and will share it with our managers in our meeting tomorrow morning (assuming Hurricane Katrina allows us to open). We are a young restaurant and our staff is usually praised for their friendly and warm service. The poor treatment you received is inexcusable and unacceptable. We are very very proud of Boatyard. It is usually one of the coolest and most delicious and comfortable places to hang out, enjoy incredible food, listen to great music and soak in the waterfront atmosphere. We apologize for our failure to meet your expectations, and, I sure would appreciate the opportunity to exchange emails with you. If you would email me (info@Boatyardclub.com), I'd like to make it up to you, if I can, and I'd like to learn more about the incidents - descriptions of your server and hostess, so I can make SURE they don't make the same mistake again. Sounds like you are a frequent visitor to our beautiful beaches, and I PROMISE we can WOW you with our food and our service if you'll give us a chance to say we're sorry and roll out the red carpet... Again, we really do try hard, and we take the challenge very personally. Don't give up on us!

Being frequent PCB visitors, we definitely have a our favorite restaurants and were anxious to add Boatyard to our list. However, that was not the case. We arrived to a sour hostess who took us directly to a lovely table by the water. By the time we reached our seats, my daughter had at least 10 mosquitoe bites, so we asked to be seated inside. We moved to an "enclosed" area, but the door was left open the and mosquitoes were visibly swarming. We decided to get out bug spray and try to tough it out, but it was just too annoying. We overheard the people at the table behind us make a complaint to their waitress about their "bugs" as well, and the waitress flippantly answered, "well, it's summer in Florida and there are bugs here." That is quite true, but we ate at 3 open air restuarants on the water that week and never had any trouble. The mosquitoes might have been out of there control, but there attitudes weren't! With so many terrific restaurants in PCB with varied seafood and steak selections, I will be sure to continue to choose establishments that I know only want to serve the customer. I wish that many of these places were listed here so I could give some awesome reviews!

Delightful Indulgence, 2005-07-18

I can honestly say that every experience I've had at this restaurant has been delightful. I've celebrated my birthday here, come for lunch during the week, by boat on an Saturday afternoon, and on a few (I won't say how many) first dates... and it's always a great time. The atmosphere and food are the most unique in this area. During the day, it's a laid back and casual place to have a great lunch, and at night you can mingle with a sexy crowd at the bar, dance the night away to the live music on the dance floor, or find a cozy little spot by the water and enjoy the company of your date. Actually, the cool thing about this place is that you can do all the above in one night. My favorite dish is the Coconut grouper, and I LOVE the fried plantains that come on the side! I try hard to resist the desserts, but it's too hard, so on a special occasion - like my birthday, or a first date, or any random day of the week (because really, everyday should be celebrated like it's a special occasion) - I'll indulge in the chocalate lava cake... intoxicatingly good. And if I've been indulging a little too much in recent days, I'll opt for one of the fresh salads - the Island Cobb is my favorite- and the portions are plenty big to make a meal. But I still have room (and zero guilt) for dessert.

It's really nice. One of the classier restaurants in Panama and right on the boat docks for a genuine feel. My girlfriend talked me into trying the fish tacos (more of a dare really) and they were great! We also had some huge fried shrimp in buffalo sauce for an app that were delicious. GF had the bowtie pasta with feta and spinach and we shared some kind of banana cheesecake desert. Service was good and the band was fun singing Buffet type tunes. We'll definately go back to theBoatyard next time in Panama.

After hearing about all the hype about this place I had to check it out. After waiting in line with and early crowd for about 20 minutes we were seated. About 20 minutes later a waiter greeted us and took our drink order. 10 minutes later we got our drinks and he took the order. 30 minutes after that we recieved our meal. I didn't really care about waiting at the time b/c I have heard so many good things about this place. I wasn't very satisfied at all with my steak. It was decent, but it had no flavor at all. Like they just slapped a piece of meat on the grill with no seasoning or marinade. I also was never offered any A-1 to take care of the problem and never did see the waiter again until it was check time. I know the place is busy and all, but can't they hire more staff? Seems to me that this would be a hot spot for someone to work with all the traffic and expensive meals. I don't think it would be a problem for them to find a couple more servers. Just my opinion, it may have just been an off night, but with all the other options in the area I would choose somewhere else if I were you.

Great Location, not so great service, 2005-06-02

We've tried the Boatyard on a number of occasions, having frequented the restaurant MANY times in 2003. After a poor experience during the holiday season in 2003, we stopped going for a while. We decided to give it another try Memorial Day weekend 2005 and are saddened to say the service has not improved at all. The bar service is excellent and if you are just looking to have a few drinks, the Boatyard is a good choice. If you want to eat and be treated to courtious and professional service, look elsewhere. During the Memorial Weekend rush, we anticipated a wait due to the large crowd. We were told it would be 1.5 hours. We expected as much and sat down for a drink and appetizer at the bar. During our wait, we noticed tables being bussed and set, yet no one being seated. When we inquired about our reservation, we were curtly told we were 1.5 pages down the list and it would be a long while (this was after 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting AND also knowing we were just 1 page down to begin with). We informed the hostess that tables were set (over 10 at this time) yet no one was being seated. We were told those tables hadn't been bussed. We and others around us could plainly see otherwise. The hostess was rude and poorly suited to the job. She clearly could not handle the responsibilities. This is not a case of poor attitude customers. A number of groups around us were expressing the same frustrations. In fact, a waiter expressed the same frustration, wondering why tables in his areas were not being seated. If this were an isolated incident, we would think nothing else of it but we have heard from a lot of people about similar experiences on less busy weekends. While the bar staff is extremely personable, the hostesses do not understand customer service at all. One final complaint. Live music is nice but during dinner settings, turn the volume down, people want to be able to talk to each other. The bands are RIDICULOUSLY loud during dinner hours.

It seems they've made it through the growing pains new restaurants experience and they have estblished themselves as one of PCB's most popular places for dining and entertainment. They always have good entertainment and great food. The atmosphere is unique and incredibly relaxing. Prices are reasonable... and the drinks are STRONG! Try the buffalo shrimp!
