Louie's Backyard is, without question, the most famous restaurant in Key West, with good reason. Famous throughout the world as the 'quintessential' caribbean experience, Louie's is situated in a historic old 'conch' home, right on the Atlantic Ocean. Lovely. Delicious. Unforgettable.

Wonderful, romantic and delishious. I've dined there many times and it's always perfect. The duck pizza upstairs is divine paired with a crisp Chardonay. Up. down or on The Afterdeck Louie's is always lovely.

Just had a lovely afternoon at the new "Upstairs at Louie's" ... very cool. While I miss the big tree that provided such good shade on the back deck (swept away by Hurricane Wilma), the view from upstairs is now better than ever, and Doug Shook has created a GREAT menu of tapas dishes (duck pizza! yum). One of my favorite things is that you can pick a wine from Louie's HUGE and FABULOUS wine list, and your waiter will find a few different wines deliciously close to it and let you taste... then select the one you want - by the glass. The place was packed with people, the view was great - the service was friendly and fun. Loved it!

Return trip with party of 12. Hostess that had a terrible attitude! Calling our Hotel and our cell phones 3x's to confirm then we were told they would not accomodate our party of 12 only 2 parties of 6. Never had such a NEGATIVE experience while on vacation. Party of 12 left disgusted and will never return.

Louie's Backyard is not a place that I will ever recommend to visit for dinner. I have just returned from my daughter's wedding weekend in Key West and many of the guests and wedding party gathered there on Thursday evening to start off the festivities. I will say that I have never been treated so rudely in any restaurant across the world. My daughter had made our reservations for which we were required to make a deposit to hold the reservation and were told if any people did not show, even 1 or 2, that she would be charged for the no - shows. We had 2 people, family of the bride driving in and running a few minutes late and they threatened to charge here if these people were not in their seats at the appointed time. Meanwhile we had filled all the seatrs that we had reserved and then we had one extra couple that we wanted to include, the maitre d' told us that was not possible even though there were tables open that we not reserved for others, so they had to sit at the bar but could not eat. The food was mediocre; we had to send steaks back to be cooked correctly, lamb was over cooked and scollops were undercooked. But the real clincher was when I was told by the maid of honor that her father had arranged for us to receive complimentary drinks upon our arrival, she had confirmed it with them at 4pm that afternoon giving them a head count so they would be prepared - yet it was never done. When the young woman asked the maitre d' what had happened, he rudely responded to her that they didn't have time. It was an unpleasant experience for our group - we spent several thousand dollars there only to be looked upon by a very rude manager. I will say that our server was quite outstanding and pleasant, even fun; but he didn't make up for the tension that was created for us the moment we all walked through the door. The intersting thing is that our group consisted of very well mannered, well traveled people, yet we were treated as if they could have cared less that we were there. So I would say to you, there are many other restaurants with outstanding food and service in Kew West and where management actually cares that their patrons have a good time and good food.

I had dinner at this restaurant on April 2, 2007 and dined alone. My primary complaint was with the service, as I told the waitress that i prefer to "dine" and do not want to be rushed while eating. This however was not the case as i had placed my order at 8:45 pm and by 9:30 had finished my meal which included the braised lobster in truffle butter and the glazed salmon. When the waitress brought the entree I told her, I did not appreciate the food being thrown at me as if this was some kind of race. She was not inclinded to provide any relief. After ordering dessert, the waitress did not ask how if i enjoyed the meal and basically was mute. The clincher was when I brought this up with the matre'd , he could have cared less.. he offered nothing, and as it was he was eating his own dinner and didnt even bother to get up and speak to the waitress. I found the service and attiude appalling. I don't know who this "louie" is, but he had better get off his ass and visit his restaurant because the inmates are running the asylum. I could have dropped my film at CVS, had a full dinner and been back in less than an hour to get my pictures. This place is trading on a name, but in reality it is nothing more than a hash house. You would be better served to dine elsewhere and save your money!

I've eaten at Louies before. The food is always great at Louies. This last trip to the Keys I stopped in Louies with a friend and had drinks. Don't overlook Louies for just hanging out with great drinks and good conversation and of course if you start to get hungry, you're just a few steps away from some nice fine dining. Thanks Louies for just letting me hang in your backyard and enjoy the Atlantic. See you next time and I promise to stay for dinner :)
