Looking and tasting mostly the same since the 1970's, The Boar's Head is a must-stop for Emerald Coast nostalgia lovers and purveyors of prime seafood fare and prime rib alike. The wine list is extensive, and the desserts are a true treat. Service can be hit-and-miss, but it's a minor quibble when the menu features such must-try items as thick-cut yellowfin tuna steaks grilled rare and wild game such as venison and quail.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in all of the Emerald Coast. But I proposed to my wife of 25 years here so I may be a bit biased. But I digress... When I first started eating here my absolute favorite dish was the Farm Raised Venison with fresh Prawns. This dish was so good I never tried another entree in all the years I ate there. This year we took our traditional pilgramage to our old haunt and it was just as we remembered it. Same great decor, same terrific rustic feel, same amazing staff but something was surely amiss! My Venison and Prawns were gone, replaced by Venison and Quail. Hrmm I really like my giant shrimp...boy was I surprised. Most quail I've had, even in fine restaurants is over cooked, hard, and semi-tasteless. This quail was perfect, flavorful, and satisfying. I had a new favorite. This is a restaurant you absolutely MUST experience.

Oh lordy! Where do I start? This place is the best place I have ever eaten in my life! They have everything going on- the food is delicious, the staff is courteous and it is a great old-english atmosphere. Not to mention they have a great margarita on the rocks! I suggest ordering the Filet Mignon, it is great!!

Well Boar's Head where should I start.... Last night was me and my wifes anniversary and I have heard great things about the restaurant. I decided to give it a try after living in panama city for the last five years. As we arrived at the Boar's Head we where dressed dress casual. I noticed the crowd waiting outside were just coming off the beach and did not go to Boar's Head for a special occasion. Walked in the door to the hostess stand and was greeted by a sign saying please wait to be seated so we wait for someone to formally welcome us to the restaurant. Instead we simply get asked how many and follow me. We get seated near a nice looking wood fire place in the center of the room. First thing I notice is there is not a nice little flame. Instead it looked like someone did not clean up some ashes and logs on a brick center piece. We are seated with menus and someone quickly runs to the table and takes up the other two seatings.(napkins and silverware) I look around to see what was all on the walls. Looked like some nice paintings but soon after I noticed they had forgotten to take down there Christmas lights. Wow there was a bunch of those tacky icicle lights all over the ceiling. Well after looking at them for a while I realize no one has been by to welcome us and get our drinks. I talk to my wife a little and check out the menu. Great looking menu with good info and a short story on what the boar's head means. Well about 5 minutes pass and still no one to the table. Then finally this guy walks by and says I will get you in just a second. Very weird and not what I expected. About 2 minutes pass and he comes back to get our drink order. I order a nice red wine sorta middle of the road. My wife orders a strawberry daiquiri that says it comes with a nice glass to take home.(she does this every time she can)So he noticed we had already set down our menus so he ask to take our dinner order. My wife orders a filet minion medium well and bake potato with butter, sour cream and cheese. The waiter ask about dressing for salad. She orders ranch for her salad. He then ask me for my order and I say the same thing. He double checked everything and then said I will get it in for you. He leaves and comes back to the table in about 3 minutes in the meantime I notice another couple that come in and sit next to us they get a different waitress. Well we get our drinks and salads from the waiter and dig in. The salad was great nice fresh lettuce and they even cut the little tomatoes also there was a olive in the salad that I love. I noticed that the waiter had brought some bread out to the table for us very good but cold. I tasted my wine very good choice. Very full and kinda sweet. Well then we sit for a while and talk. I noticed our waiter running around kind of frantic table to table. The couple behind us that had sit down after us was receiving there food. Our waiter comes by and says it will be right up this is waiting for about 20 minutes. Well it finally shows up waiter puts it in front of us and walks off. I noticed that the steak looked good and the waiter had added chives and bacon to our sides for the potato nice I don't mind them. I start cutting up my potato and notice there was no butter on the table. So I look for the waiter but no where to be found. I start cutting the meat get done and touch it and notice it is cold and there is no pink to be found in the middle. Well the waiter walks by and I ask for butter, A1 and Hines 57. He makes a noise like he did not want to get them for me. But did and returned very quickly. I am very disappointed in my steak and thought about returning it to the kitchen but it was my anniversary and did not want to ruin the night. Even though they had something in the menu about if you have any problems please let them know did not want to sit and argue or explain all the problems so far when I was out for a nice night. I sucked it up and ate my meal. My wife started complaining on how cold it was also but I told her not to worry about it we had other stuff to do. Well I ate my meal and talked a little and drank my very good wine. Got finished and waited on the ticket. The whole time the waiter never once came by and asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything. He finally brings the check. Price was not to bad for two people but kinda high compared to some other people on the beach. I seen that he had charged 3 dollars for toppings for the potato half of them I did not even order. Not cool with me but oh well. So I get my card out and sit it in the book and put at the edge of the table. I see a guy walk up to the couple next to us and start talking I can over hear everything being said well this guy is the owner. He is talking about how well business is for him this year because of the new condos and also the 4th falling on a Wednesday so he gets customers all week. This goes on for about 10 minutes while we are waiting to have our check picked up. The owner never once even looked at our table. Well the waiter comes back and gets the card and goes to check us out. He comes back and tells us to have a good night. My wife ask for her glass he says that is it. The dirty one she was drinking from she asked well can I get it cleaned. He was pissed and went and cleaned it. He returned with the glass in a piece of paper. Well I filled out the ticket and you might guess what the tip was I did notice that the waiters name was Robert so we left and said we will never go to the restaurant again. Also we would never recommend it to any tourist or friends.

We ate here for Valentine's Day and the service was poor. Maybe it was just because it was Valentine's day, so we're willing to give them another try. My wife's dish (special filet) was AWESOME! I was jealous because my captains filet was just okay. I remember eating here several years ago and really liking it, so we're going to try again on a less crowded night. 6 out of 10 stars on this visit.
