There are only a few roads in the world that
are so unusual or beautiful that they have become vacation destinations
in their own right. 30-A joins the ranks of the Pacific Coast Highway
(PCH), the Amalfi Coast Road, and France’s Corniche... it runs
through pine forests along the most beautiful white sand beaches in
the world offering breathtaking views of rolling dunes edged by Caribbean
blue Gulf waters. It crosses freshwater coastal lakes, saltwater inlets,
wetlands and marshes - passing by centuries-old live oaks draped with
ferns and moss, bonsai size scrub oaks and magnolias with fragrant white
blooms. Rosemary grows wild along the roadside as do the golden sea
oat grasses.
Highway 30-A is only 18 ½ miles long, but along the way you pass four
state parks, 11 rare coastal dune lakes and 11 totally unique tiny beach
