Schooner Wharf Battle of the Bars
Key West, FL -Shake, stir, slurp and sort - all in the name of charity! The Annual "Battle of the Bars" showdown comes at high noon Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Schooner Wharf Bar. That is when the Key West bars and restaurants will get their teams of seven ready to determine the champion.
The popular fund-raiser, which has raised over $120,000 for Big Brothers/Big Sisters through the years, combines two of the island's favorite pastimes - drinking and donating. A relay course will be laid out in front of Schooner Wharf where Key West's hospitality staff will battle it out, performing tasks used every day in the bar & restaurant business. The team with the best time, without mistakes wins the coveted Title and takes home a Trophy, unlimited bragging rights, and dinner certificates from Key West’s premier restaurants.
The $35 entry fee ($5.00 per team member) and all “bribes” to the referees are donated to that organization, and last year's Battle of the Bars raised more than $15,700
"It’s a day of fun and hilarity in the name of charity. I love to see the smiles on people’s faces and the excitement of all the teams! The energy level is amazing. We are proud to have exceeded $120,000 for Big Brothers/Big Sisters!” said Evalena Worthington, co-owner of Schooner Wharf Bar and organizer of the games.
Game day is slated for August 3rd. Sign up before July 26th and have your team’s name printed on the collectable T-shirt. This event is also part of the Key West Restaurant & Bar Association’s Annual Wine & Food Festival.
