A Twist on the Ten Favorite Places to Shop in the Grand Strand

Every "junker" knows the best kind of buried treasure is one that comes with a story and at a bargain.
A Twist on the Ten Favorite Places to Shop in the Grand Strand
Myrtle Beach, SC
As rich and wonderful in history and natural beauty as SC's coastline is, it is similarly rich in secondhand shops, roadside must-stops and antique stores. Every "junker" knows the best kind of buried treasure is one that comes with a story and at a bargain.

Maybe you're more garbage-hound than antique-seeker. Perhaps the opposite is true. Either way, pursuing objects with character you love – or the potential for you to recreate – is more than half the fun! Here and near, you can be assured a marvelous something has your name on it. In truth, you may not even be looking for it. It could be old and valuable and add character to an important room – or some other something cleverly repurposed for office, bath or bedroom.

You need not be a designer to spot bargains, but a strong sense of your own style is essential. Learn about pieces and periods and brand names you admire. Do you love silver tabletop lighters? Sterling flasks? Embroidered linens? Old mirrors? Quilts? Native American jewelry? Mid-century furniture? War memorabilia? "Shabby chic" or "retro?"

Rule number one is to find your passion, arm yourself with knowledge and frequent your favorite places often as merchandise is always changing.

Rules two and three: take cash, a tape measure and written dimensions for any nook or cranny you aim to fill. Strive for the impression you can't live without whatever you're interested in buying. (Even if your heart is racing at good fortune.) Depending on the prize, in many price negotiations serious traders will meet buyers somewhere near half.

As to where to go along the Grand Strand, options are as exhaustive as any shopper's capacity for exhaustion. There is magic in what resourceful folk can do with someone else's ill-considered leftovers!

We are sharing our Top 10 (in alphabetical order), but there are so many more. New alternatives pop up – and go away – all the time, so keep an eye out for up-to-the-minute venues. Merchandise changes constantly – one of many benefits and pleasures associated with bargain shopping.
