101 Reasons to Visit Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC -

More and more, the Travel Channel is becoming a beacon for not only where to go…but why! Recently Myrtle Beach was not only named one of “America’s Best Beaches,” but was among 10 U.S. beaches chosen for the 2006 “Best Beach” designation. This unstoppable beach was also named America’s Best Thrillseeker Beach in 2006 or alternately, “America’s Most Adrenaline Packed Beach” during a Travel Channel broadcast. If you’re counting, we’re up to four and only just getting started.

America’s Best Beaches, Myrtle Beach

A review on the Travel Channel’s website, Discovery.com stated, “Myrtle Beach is the East Coast’s ultimate vacation hub” and has also been hailed as the “Best Family Beach” time and time again. In an online poll of favorite beaches conducted by Yahoo and National Geographic Traveler Magazine, Myrtle Beach beat out such exotic locales as Waikiki and St. Thomas. A survey of more than 2,200 travelers ranked Myrtle Beach No. 2 on a list of Top 10 Beaches…and Myrtle Beach manages to stay in the “top 10” year after year! All results were posted on Yahoo’s website and published in National Geographic Traveler.

Forbes Magazine ranks Myrtle Beach the 29th best place for business and careers among 200 U.S. metropolitan statistical areas and EscapeHomes.com placed Myrtle Beach fourth on its list of top golf towns. Golf Digest rates Myrtle Beach No. 9 on its list of the 50 Greatest Golf Destinations in the World…that’s “in the WORLD!

The Travel Channel bestowed an additional honor on the Myrtle Beach area, placing the oceanfront boardwalk at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion on the list of “Best American Boardwalks.” Dr. Beach (Stephen Leatherman) included Myrtle Beach on his list of “10 Great Places to Go Coastal with Your Children,” which appeared in USA Today’s Travel Section in July 2005. Leatherman is the author of “Beach Vacation Travel Journal” and “Dr. Beach’s Survival Guide.”

Moving right along, the readers of Southern Living have again named Myrtle Beach a favorite travel destination and “second favorite beach town” in the 2005 Readers Choice Awards. Since the Readers Choice Awards were launched in 1995, Myrtle Beach has been near the top of every list, also making the list in 2005 for favorite public gardens - Anna Hyatt Huntington’s Brookgreen Gardens is spectacular and a winner on any list. Don’t miss it!

Southern Accents Magazine made “the Beach” a Top 10 winner in three categories of the 2nd Annual Great Escapes Reader Travel Award Contest…#1, favorite southern city for a weekend getaway, #2, favorite golf/spa destination (you know there are over 100 golf courses on the Grand Strand) and #3, favorite beach destination.

According to EscapeHomes.com, the Myrtle Beach area is No.1 on the 2005 list of “10 Most Desirable Second Home Markets! Following Myrtle Beach are South Padre Island, Texas; Naples, FL; Holden Beach, N.C.; Ocean City, N.J.; Las Vegas,; San Diego; Park City, Utah; Orlando, FL and Santa Fe, N.M. This list was also broadcast (loudly) on CNBC’s “Town Hall” program…will it still be desirable in 2006?

For the third consecutive year, the Myrtle Beach area is among the five most popular destinations for vacationers traveling by car, according to AAA. Myrtle Beach comes in at No. 3 behind Orlando/Walt Disney World and Niagara Falls. Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon round out the top five.

Canadians and readers of the Toronto Sun presented the Myrtle Beach area with the 2005 Golfer’s Choice Bronze Award for Best Travel Destination. Even Myrtle Beach is far warmer than the climate in Canada and though many Canadian “snowbirds” make their way all the way to Florida…apparently many of them are very happy in Myrtle Beach…it’s COLD up there!.

The online group travel booking website GroupTravelPlanet.com placed Myrtle Beach in the No. 3 spot on its list of Top Group Vacation Destinations with Special Hotel Rates. For years, many “groups” have recognized this desirable beach destination is a great place for groups of families, friends or anyone looking for some fun in the sun! In 2005, Myrtle Beach was the third most searched destination for a July 4th family vacation on the GreatFamilyRentals.com website…Orlando and Kissimmee, FL held the top two spots. However, VacationSpot.com named Myrtle Beach the top beach spot for 2005!

Author David Vokac lists Myrtle Beach as one of the 100 most outstanding communities in the country in his book, “The Great Towns of America: A Guide to the 100 Best Getaways for a Vacation of a Lifetime…and that’s exactly what you’ll find on this award-winning beach, inside this award-winning community with more award-winning golf courses than you can shake a club at…the vacation of a lifetime in award-winning Myrtle Beach! Things are just warming up for the 2006 summer season, and you better hurry up before everyone beats you to the tee…or to the beach! It’s not only award winning, it’s awesome… and a whole lot of FUN!

Was anybody counting? Wellllll, that must have been 101 reasons to hit the Beach and then some…but then again, who’s counting? I’m way too busy and ready to hit the beach! End of Article
