Cool Summer Evenings

Myrtle Beach, SC -

Brookgreen Gardens is America’s foremost sculpture garden, widely recognized as the finest outdoor presentation of American figurative sculpture…in the world! The extraordinary collection is further enhanced by 250-year-old live oaks that frame the garden in its inimitable style…and in the summer, Brookgreen Gardens grows! Llilies dot the landscape as Crape Myrtle blooms alongside Blackeyed Susan and purple coneflowers, just to name a few! The scent of gardenia fills the air and in South Carolina, the evenings are always cool.

In fact, there’s much ado about Brookgreen Garden’s cool summer evenings…every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday throughout the summer of ’07. Much like the garden’s visionary creators, Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntingdon, the cool summer evenings are a celebration of the arts. Count on the magic of live theatre and listen for a little night music as you cruise down the creeks in the cool of the summer evenings…only at Brookgreen Gardens.

Cool Summer Wednesday Evenings feature “Aaron and Theodosia,” an historical drama that deals with the relationship between Thomas Jefferson’s Vice-President, Aaron Burr and his beautiful daughter, Theodosia, when she lived at one of the plantations on Brookgreen Garden’s property. The play is “the thing” every Wednesday evening, 7:30 p.m. in the Live Oak Allee.…naturally!

Thursday is for romance when Romantic Jazz Trumpeter, Javier Vega plays tunes from the 1930’s to present…Dan Junk and Doug Fankhauser team up with acoustic guitars and vocals, and finally, Walt Polinski shows up with his soprano saxophone. Very cooool indeed, every Thursday evening! Kids also get their turn late (Thursday) afternoons on the Lowcountry Trail, followed by “Feast with the Beast,” an animal feeding program at the Plantation Barn.

Then the Summer Concert Series kicks off on cool Friday evenings in the Arboretum. Think Rocky Fretz on piano, Tim Peterman’s steel drum duo and singer/songwriter, Jan Spencer to chase the blues away. It’s all cool, all Brookgreen Gardens and nothing but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday summer evenings…’til August 17th. Take your pick…just be cool about it! End of Article
