Winter Fun in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC -

There are plenty of things to do in Myrtle Beach throughout the year, and January is no exception. While many beach communities essentially close down for the winter, Myrtle Beach continues to please locals and visitors alike with one exciting activity after another!

Southern Elegance Casino Cruise

The golf courses are still open, and so are most of the restaurants, and of course the beach never closes... but for many January's the time to find a little indoor fun. And Myrtle Beach offers some really exceptional opportunities.

Over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, Southern Elegance is offering TripSmarter.Com visitors a special gift!

Do you feel lucky? Do you enjoy being treated like a VIP? Then take Joe Telesco of Southern Elegance Casino Cruises up on his offer to "Come and see the most elegant casino ship in the Carolinas!"

This is gaming at its best - great games like craps, blackjack, roulette, and over 200 slot machines. The ship itself adds to the gaming experience... it's a charming triple-decker with room enough to roam around. A full two decks are devoted to the games, while the third is given over to an observation deck and lounge.

Mr. Telesco told TripSmarter.Com that "In January our biggest customers are locals and snowbirds," and so the ship makes sure to have specials in place for both.

Mondays are Locals Appreciation Day, on both AM and PM cruises. Locals receive tokens or match play and a complimentary choice of items from their deli, as well as free transportation that accommodates people from south Myrtle Beach to Little River and, on request, can reach people in Sunset beach and Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

Tuesday's and Thursday's AM cruises are Senior Citizen Specials, with $10 in tokens and brunch thrown in. The free shuttle is also available, so you've always got a ride!

Over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, Southern Elegance is offering TripSmarter.Com visitors a special gift - so be sure and tell the folks on board that you read about them here! (For contact information, click here.).

To stay with the water theme, let's visit Ripley's Aquarium. More than just a display of exotic undersea animals, Ripley's Aquarium sees its mission to include educating visitors on the delights and dangers of the sea. With that it mind, they have hourly marine education center presentations, hands-on exhibits, and amazing displays.

One of the wildest parts of a visit to Ripley's Aquarium is a trip through the Dangerous Reef... this 330-foot moving "glidepath" takes you along the ocean floor as above and around you 11-foot sharks glide ominously amongst a host of marine life. This is an experience you'll never forget, and one of the most unusual adventures you'll find in all of the Grand Strand!

Ray Bay is home to stingrays and ray sharks, and Ripley's Aquarium encourages visitors to interact with these gentle creatures. You can actually reach out and touch a stingray! With knowledgeable educators present, Ray Bay is both educational and exciting.

The Living Gallery showcases Nature's art with giant Pacific octopus, sea dragon, and unusual marine life from around the world, while Rainbow Rock features vivid and brightly colored tropical fish darting in and out of equally beautiful rainbow rock.

Discovery Center is another hands-on exhibit that "puts you in touch" with horseshoe crabs and invites you to expand your knowledge with high-tech interactive presentations.

Ripley's Aquarium is a full day of fun for the whole family, and, if you're not careful, you just might learn something! ( Click here for more information.)

If you're in the mood to just sit back and let the world come to you, then you've got to visit the IMAX® Discovery Theater. Located at Broadway at the Beach, the IMAX® Discovery Theater is a Myrtle Beach "must see."

IMAX® screens range from four to eight stories tall, and images fill your peripheral vision. Using the largest film frame in motion picture history, a whopping 70mm, IMAX® fills the screen with depth and clarity of vision.

A 12,000 watt, 6-track digital audio system ensures that the aural experience matches the visual - resulting in a stupendous spectacle of light and sound.

With movies that range from "Lost Worlds," an exploration narrated by Harrison Ford of the importance of biological diversity that travels from the artic to the equator, to a specially enhanced presentation of "Beauty and the Beast" that saw Disney's animators and post-production crew spending an entire year going through the movie scene-by-scene to bring out details you've never seen before. Kids will never forget seeing their favorite movie at IMAX® ! (Click here for more information.)
