Myrtle Beach By Boat

Myrtle Beach, SC -

The most scenic and perhaps most peaceful way to get to the Grand Strand is by boat. The Intra coastal Waterway runs 1,200 miles from Boston, Massachusetts, to Key West, Florida, parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. In 1932, the Army Corps of Engineers dug a 20-mile canal, connecting Little River to the Waccamaw River. This portion goes right through the Grand Strand.

Myrtle Beach Marinas

Many of the marinas have signs along the waterway telling you what CB radio channel to tune in to contact them.

Marinas along the Grand Strand area include Little River, Vereen's Marina, Bella Marina and Palmetto Shores, at the northern edge of Horry. On down, there's Hague Marina, just before Socastee; Bucksport, a very popular docking spot; Wacca Wache at Wachesaw Landing, Inlet Port Marina and Cedar Hills, in the Murrells Inlet area.

There is a city-owned marina in Conway on the Waccamaw River. If you're traveling south on the waterway, you'll turn right at Enterprise Landing at Channel Marker 25. Then you'll head north for about 9 miles. Some boaters choose this course to enjoy the river's beauty. It's winding and has some sharp turns, so if your boat's length is 40 feet or more, you might not want to try it. To navigate the waterway, it's a good idea to have a nautical map. The maps point out dangerous spots, marinas and buoys and describe available services at the marinas.
