The Twentieth Annual Art in Bloom
New Orleans, LA -Art in Bloom, a joint project of the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) and the Garden Study Club of New Orleans, will be honoring and giving thanks to the many people and organizations around the country and the world that have aided in New Orleans' recovery with the theme, "Merci Bien: A Bouquet of Thanks." The five-day event (April 2 - 6, 2008), which showcases over 100 exhibitors of creative floral designs, sculptures and scenes, benefits educational projects and exhibitions at NOMA and projects of The Garden Study Club of New Orleans, including: the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the New Orleans Botanical Gardens at City Park, the Restoration of the Gardens of Project Lazarus, and Longue Vue House and Gardens.

An original one-of-a-kind mixed media "Blue Dog" by renowned Cajun artist George Rodrigue will be auctioned off at Art in Bloom 2008. Mr. Rodrigue created the piece solely for the auction and his donation is greatly appreciated. Proceeds from the donated piece will benefit the museum as well as numerous organizations in New Orleans assisting in the rebuilding efforts.
"So many individuals, organizations, corporations and even nations gave of themselves in important ways after Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent flooding of New Orleans. From students who gave up their Spring breaks to come to New Orleans to gut and rebuild houses, to organizations and governments that provided supplies and much needed funding, Art in Bloom wants to acknowledge and thank them in this small way," said Dana Hansel, co-chair of Art in Bloom, 2008.
The New Orleans Museum of Art, the city's oldest fine arts institution, has a magnificent, permanent collection of more than 40,000 objects. The Museum continues to exhibit, interpret and preserve works of art from ancient to modern times. As it has for almost 100 years, the New Orleans Museum of Art continues to be a gathering place for all those seeking to share the beauty of this extraordinary collection of world art and learn from it. NOMA engages, educates and enriches the diverse populations within, and drawn to, the New Orleans area.
