Loews Hotel

New Orleans, LA -

We are not much for hang’n around in a hotel room when we travel for leisure, but in places like New Orleans the respite is a necessity. The sundry of accommodation choices run the gamut from intimate historic boutique properties to name brand accommodations. Our favorite is the Loews hotel. This property metamorphosed out of the former Lykes Steamship Company Building. Savvy designers and hoteliers did their homework and crafted a property with style and a perfect blend of amenities.

Loews Hotel

Ever booked a “spacious room” to discover you could not move from bed to bath without bruising your shins? We’ve lived in New York and Chicago in stylish one-room lofts. When we first walked into our room at the Loews, our ‘loft’ dwarfed by comparison. By our standards these rooms are ‘huge’ with commanding views of the River and Skyline comfortable furnishings and inviting bedding.

One of our favorite dining establishments and bars is in-house. Café Adelaide’s and the Swizzle Stick Bar inspired by a legendry New Orleans Brennan family member, “Aunt Adelaide”.

I did mention we don’t hang around our hotel too often. But, at the Loews there’s good reason to. One of our favorite dining establishments and bars is in-house. Café Adelaide’s and the Swizzle Stick Bar inspired by a legendry New Orleans Brennan family member, “Aunt Adelaide”. Her mantra, “eat’n, drink’n and carry’n on”, guides the menu and the attitude. Bar Chef Lu Brow creates a menu of cocktails that rightly named her New Orleans 2006 Best Bartender, by New Orleans Magazine. If you haven’t experienced the cocktail culture of the 50’s, Lu Brow has rejuvenated the spirit of that era with a modern twist. We are particularly fond of Chef Danny Kanel’s (SP?) battered soft shell crab when in season. On other occasions? -- Louisiana Shrimp and Grits, Duck Breast and Crispy Oysters…and of course the special offerings of the day.

Working off the calories and the extravagance of the Big Easy is not overlooked. Work it off in the spacious well-equipped full service gym or lap pool, and then order up a Swizzle Stick or Side Car to sip in the sauna or at the spa.

In the heart of Central Business District, the location, places guests within an easy saunter to the Arts Warehouse district, the Vieux Carre, Harrah’s Casino and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center…either in or room or out, Laissez lez Boutemps Rouler! End of Article
