![]() New Orleans Jazz Fest Late April is a magical time in South Louisiana, a last chance for temperate outdoor reveling before the heat of summer begins. This brief, exquisite season is highlighted by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, now in its 36th year. Jazz Fest, as it is commonly known, has a sumptuous schedule of music that ranges from the most deeply traditional to the most cutting-edge, exotic, and avant-garde. Beyond music, the Festival's profusion of food, parades, and crafts delights all of the senses - both in the here and now, and through the palpable sense of connection with the multitude of generations now past, whose cumulative knowledge... trials and tribulations have brought us all... here! Amen, brother! Twelve simultaneous stages present an incredibly broad cross-section of music. Naturally, there's...jazz...the traditional New Orleans school and the New Orleans brass-band renaissance school, straight-ahead and avant-garde. Throw in some rural and urban blues...good ole time Gospel and country. Then get down with rap and hip-hop; Cajun music and Creole zydeco; soul and funk; rock and rockabilly; classic New Orleans rhythm & blues! And don't forget about the Latin, Caribbean and South American genres, including various types of African music. Finally, there's everything else...the creative hybrids that draw on all of these eclectic elements. Now, that really is a "broad cross-section" of music! Nevertheless, everything changes all the time and it would be practically fatal NOT to change… the real question is what is our capacity to change and how will we adapt? Perception comes into play… and that’s everything… each of us often sees the same thing in different ways and just because everything is different doesn’t mean that everything has changed. Are you confused yet? Let’s examine what we know… The "world’s most beautiful beaches" will remain untouched and any serious encroachment will ultimately be dealt with by "mother nature!" Hurricane Ivan was recent enough proof of that. The clear emerald water of the Gulf of Mexico isn’t likely to change either as long as we continue to keep a close eye on how we handle our environment. Those two factors, the beach and the Gulf, are not only a constant but they’re also the main reason so many people choose to visit and live in Panama City... Click here to read more!
