2006 Greetings Traveler, Another fabulous Summer in the Southeast is nearing it's end... and as the seasons change, it's time to begin thinking about all the wonderful things to see and do this time of year. Fall officially begins on the 23rd of September, but there's still plenty of warm weather left for a visit to Panama City Beach, Destin, Pensacola and Myrtle Beach. In fact, this might be the best time of year to visit the beach! Big crowds, long lines and bumper-to-bumer traffic are gone... enjoyable weather and stunning Autumn sunsets are back. Festivals and events of all kinds are happening in every city, from super-celebrations like Key West's Fantasy Fest to local favorites like Schooners Lobsterfest and the Destin Seafood Festival. Plus, NFL season has begun... the Saints have returned to New Orleans and the Falcons are looking strong in Atlanta. Life is good in the great Southeast! The months of June-Sept offers the clearest, calmest water for diving and snorkeling. Prices at guesthouses and hotels are lower and don’t have a minimum stay. Parking is less of a problem. And restaurants? You can actually walk in without a reservation and (gasp!) get a table at the most popular restaurants in town! What a concept! For the current Top Five, I picked five restaurants where it CAN be hard to get a table in season...not just because of the food, but because of the “warm and welcoming” attitude you find there. These five restaurants are all owned by local people who participate year-round in the community. Click for more! ![]() What Happened? By Wayne Gentry, Meteorologist So what happened to the forecast for one of the most active tropical seasons in history? Southern Beaches braced for high water and empty beaches have languished under hotter than average temperatures and flat surf... I heard one visitor refer to the Gulf as "The lake of Mexico". Weathermen know that many factors remain in place for an active year, good grief, the water temperatures as far north as Virginia are in the mid 80's... in mid September! That's a lot of energy stored in our oceans, but something has repressed activity this year... thank goodness. Click for more! Link to Us & Win! Link to TripSmarter.Com and win!
