Greetings Traveler,

By now, everyone is aware of the amazing events that have taken place in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast. First, the series of events that followed Hurricane Katrina devastated the Crescent City. Then, to add insult to injury, Hurricane Rita took an early turn Northward and caused more flooding, which delayed the reopening of New Orleans.

But not all of the news is bad. Power has been restored in much of the city. The flood waters are nearly gone. More and more businesses are reopening every day. And the historic French Quarter remains virtually undamaged.

New Orleans is a much-loved member of the Tourist Network family and we look forward to being a part of rebuilding our great city. New Orleans Television (N.O.TV) will be on the air soon with updates of what's going on around town. We've also set up a Hurricane Katrina Resource Center on TripSmarter.Com to help spread the word about employment and housing opportunities for Evacuees. Many of our friends have contributed to our efforts and we truly appreciate everyone's involvement. It won't be long before the sounds of street cars and trumpets fill the city again. New Orleans is rebuilding... one step at a time.

Elsewhere in the Southeast, the days are getting shorter and the weather will soon begin to cool. Autumn is a wonderful time of year for special events and festivals. From Fantasy Fest in Key West to the Indian Summer Festival in Panama City Beach, this Fall promises to be quite exciting! So, what are you waiting for?! Pack your bags and take a trip to your favorite destination now!

And don't forget to register for our Myrtle Beach Giveaway! You could WIN 4 days and 3 nights at Kingston Plantation! Throw in dinner for 2 at Thoroughbred's and Collector's... and of course, 2 rounds of GOLF... and you've got the perfect getaway! Just what the doctor ordered!

New Orleans:
One Step at a Time
The Gulf Coast has managed to pull its way through hurricane after hurricane for hundreds of years and Katrina, as devastating as she was in so many ways, is no exception. America is pulling together to help and people all over the world are also taking note and doing their share. It’s all about resilience and there is no one tougher and no one more proud of their city, than the fine people of New Orleans.

Though we’ve seen terrible photos of the flooding in and around New Orleans, there’s always a silver lining in every cloud. What the media is not showing is everything that survived the wrath of Katrina. Quite simply, it just isn’t the best news story at this time. The good news is most if not all of the French Quarter was left undamaged by the storm… only a few parts suffered minimal damage.
