The Governor Stone in Historic St. Andrews Marina - Local News
The Governor Stone is a gaff-rigged, two-masted schooner built in Pascagoula, MS in 1877. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991, the vessel is now a representative of the slower-paced, labor-intensive past when settlers relied on coastal waterways for travel and transport. The vessel has been a lighter, freighter, oyster buy boat, rum runner, daysailer and private yacht. Her capacity to reinvent herself with the changing times reveals why she is the sole remaining schooner of her type.
