Krewe of Massalina Gumbo Cook-Off and Shrimp Boil

Panama City Beach, FL -

The 2nd Krewe of Massalina Gumbo Cook-off will be held as part of the 2007 Mardi Gras Festival on Saturday Feb.3rd, from 12-3 p.m. All area restaurants are encouraged to participate. Awards will be given to the winners. Gumbo will be $5.00 a bowl.

Gumbo Cook-off and Shrimp Boil

Local restaurants are providing what they believe to be their best gumbo, and a panel of gumbo experts and local celebrities will then be tasked with tasting and judging at 10:30 a. m. The Best Gumbo award will be announced at 11:00 a.m. and then the public will be allowed to taste and vote for a “People’s Choice” award. A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the top entry and trophies will be awarded in several categories.

You don’t have to be a restaurant professional to enter. Local cooks can enter for a $10.00 fee. Non-commercial entries are asked to bring 1 gallon of gumbo in a crock pot or warmer. The top entry in this division will win $50 and a custom designed apron.

If you would like to submit your gumbo, simply bring your gumbo to McKenzie Park before 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, October 29th. Entries will be accepted until the judging begins at 10:30 a.m. or until table space runs out.

The public is encouraged to enjoy a “bottomless bowl” of gumbo or a shrimp plate (complete with corn on the cob, new potatoes, and French bread) for $5.00. Non-alcoholic beverages as well as beer and wine will be available for purchase. Take out orders are available.

All funds from this event will be used to support the Krewe of Massalina’s Annual Mardi Gras Parade and Festival on February 11, 2006, along with the Krewe’s charities. For further information contact Kathryn Miller- 960-2502. End of Article
