The Perfect Season - Fall in Panama City Beach

By Amy Mann

Panama City Beach, FL -

I am not a writer. I am a runner. But, when I was asked to write an article for our newsletter, it didn’t take me long to decide what I wanted people to know about the Emerald Coast. I stepped outside for my morning run, breathed in a deep breath of clear cool air… there was just a hint of salty flavor in the air as I ran down one of my favorite little roads that hugs the beach. The sky was so blue – the sand so white – the water streaked with pretty variations of blue – deep blue, icy clear aquamarine, rich turquoise. There wasn’t a soul on the beach. I was glad to have it all to myself, but I thought, “People are crazy. They are missing the best time of the year!”

Note from Editor: Amy Mann completed the New York Marathon in 2006 and has qualified for the world's oldest marathon, the Boston Marathon. The 112th race will take place April 21, 2008.

Fall is my favorite time of year, and I know most locals agree with me. We may not experience New England’s dramatic fall foliage, but we always have the emerald green water. And, Fall is the ideal time to visit the Emerald Coast for many reasons.

I am not a writer. I am a runner. But, when I was asked to write an article for our newsletter, it didn’t take me long to decide what I wanted people to know about the Emerald Coast.

Visitors are able to find lower rates for condos, beach homes and hotels. While peak season is still enjoyable and has many advantages, you won’t have to wait in line to enter your favorite bar or wait to be seated at your favorite restaurant. Speaking of restaurants, there are many that offer a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner for you to enjoy with the family and friends. Café Provence in Santa Rosa Beach is a perfect example, and they do a marvelous job of making your Thanksgiving holiday memorable.

The water temperature can be a little chilly for a dip in the gulf, but a walk on the beach is still pleasant, especially with your favorite pull-over and scarf. The sun sets as early as 5:00 pm, thanks to daylight savings time. The sunsets are stunning especially with a nice glass of red wine and your favorite people.

The Emerald Coast offers a rejuvenating experience for everyone year ‘round, but it is a special place to be during the Fall. End of Article
