Panama
City, a Smart Investment, NOW!
Amy Mann, GM Beach TV |
When CNN reports that Panama City, FL is the #1 place for real estate investment in the United States, we better believe them. It was a little shocking to me at first, but then why wouldn’t we be #1? They’re projecting a 72% gain in home prices by 2011.
Economists say some of the factors increasing the demand are that property prices
are still low by Florida standards ... more

Urban Village in Myrtle Beach
Marvin Colley, Beach TV |
The
City of Myrtle Beach and McCaffery Interests have joined forces on
a $600 million dollar venture in Myrtle Beach. They say, “It takes
two to tango” and a project of this magnitude, not to mention quality
would not be possible without the city’s hard work and tireless dedication.
The City should be applauded for their considerable efforts in what
will ultimately be known as The Market Common, Myrtle Beach... more

Morning After
Marjorie Paul Shook, GM, Key TV |
Morning After… there has to be one. I just got back from the gym, trying to sweat out some of the Vodka I drank last night. Last night being the final night of Fantasy Fest! Man, it was really fun this year. Maybe it was the fact that Wilma postponed last year’s Festival to December, which is just so wrong. No, Fantasy Fest should always be the weekend you change your clocks to “fall back.” It marks the end of summer and the beginning of SEASON! This year, the weather changed just in time, and soooooo many people came out in sooooo many ways!
Friday’s walking parade was the biggest ever, and people were
in the wildest “get ups” you have ever seen. Friends all strolling
through old town in an ever-ebbing and flowing stream of madcap
fun! If you are smart like my group, you’ll pack a cooler full
of rum punch and beer and load up the wagon so you can roll
your party... more

Georgia
Aquarium Growing Again
Paula
Sconiers, The Atlanta Channel |
As
most people in America already know, The Georgia Aquarium is
the largest in the world. Well, guess what ….? It’s getting even
bigger! The Georgia Aquarium broke ground in October on a building
improvement project that will expand the Oceans Ballroom and
reinvest more than $13 million in the facility. The Aquarium
is currently a 550,000 square-foot facility; after improvements
are made, the building will increase its space to more than 580,000
square feet. The project will improve the overall special events
and guest experiences... more

Glorious Fall in Atlanta!
J.J. Kempler, The Atlanta Channel |
It’s my favorite time of year in Atlanta, and there is no better time than now to visit the “Capital of the South.” The leaves are changing; the weather’s cooling down, and there is never lack of events to entertain the visitors and locals alike.
There is one new addition to Atlanta you will not
want to miss for sure, and that is City Pass! For one low price you will
be able to see all the great attractions in Atlanta including... more

My Favorite Time of Year.
Robin Quinlan, Beach TV
|
| Fall
happens to be my favorite time of the year in Destin. Surprising?
Maybe. But, it’s this time of year the weather is never better.
The temperature cools, the humidity is low, the beaches are
less crowed. The sunsets are more brilliant, waters are clear
and calendars are packed with events. It’s an opportunity
to take advantage of the calmer, serene lifestyle that the
Emerald Coast offers. It’s this time of year I get to spend
more personal time with my clients and reflect on the successes
of the past season. It’s a time for outside events

Time to Come Back to New Orleans
Michelle Mueller, New Orleans Television |
For
years, anyone visiting or living on the Emerald Coast this
time of year just expected it to be HOT...not warm, not toasty,
but HOT
. Steaming HOT in fact!
Early
mornings on the beach would be breezy and bearable but by
mid-afternoon the breeze would stop and it wasnt unusual
to see steam rise from the sand and heat waves curling off
the water. At some point during the day, most everyone would
seek... more

Sports
Bars, the New American Pastime
Randy
Peterson,
Tourist Network
Its
that time of year...the leaves are turning colors, cool breezes fill the
air, long sleeves and corduroy are popping up around town (okay for our
loyal readers in the FL Keys ignore the above references and look at the
temp gauge...see its cold out today, mid-70s)...alright back to that wonderful
time we call Fall and football season. This is where I am getting evil
glares from those widows to the game, but wait one second! Interestingly
enough, the latest trends are showing that Football is quickly becoming... more

The Hurricane Season that Wasn’t
Wayne
Gentry, Tourist Network
Sighs
of relief can be heard from residents and vacationers across the southeast
as this hurricane season makes the turn for the finish line. The official
end of the season, November 30th, usually marks the end of tropical activity
for the Atlantic, but there are exceptions…like last year. In 2005 we
exhausted the alphabet in October, had four storms in November, and Zeta
did not die until January 2006. Of our six Tourist Network stations,
only Atlanta and Myrtle Beach escaped damage. New Orleans’ ordeal with
Katrina was unprecedented, Key West was affected by four (count ‘em four)
storms and Destin and Panama City dodged heavy damage but suffered significant
beach erosion from two storms... more

What
Food Does a Foodie Eat?
Margit
Bisztray, Tourist Network
I’m making this the subject of an article, because I always get asked: what does a food writer eat at home? My guess is the answer is somewhat what you’d expect and somewhat different. Other food writers I talk to (or most, anyway–––some are self-proclaimed ‘non-cooks,’) have about the same habits as I do.
First of all, when I’ve been eating out a lot, I tend to really keep
it light and simple at home. Boring, huh? My last trip to Atlanta was
a doozy. I ate blackened catfish, fried okra and banana pudding at Mary
Mac’s the same day I feasted on amazing mushroom crostini, shrimp and
grits, salmon croquettes and pecan tart (the best of 3 desserts) at Watershed
in Decatur, not to mention a round of pomegranate margaritas and the
world’s
best guacamole at Rosa Mexicana that day sometime around happy hour.
There was a cheese....

CEO
Pushes For Accountability
Myron
Hines, Tourist
Network
The
Production crew at the Tourist Network is a hard working, fast-moving,
results- oriented group of individuals that I would put up against any
production team of its size anywhere. Like any company, we are interested
in accountability. We track our assets and our personnel’s time going
and coming. We track our Sales. We track our overhead expenses, and we
track our progress. We are about the business of Television, and we do
all that because a good business has a responsibility to its customers,
its employees and to itself.
In this vein, our CEO, Toni Davis, feels a strong sense of responsibility
to our staff. She wants to be sure they have every advantage possible to
do a great job for our clients …from the tools we use (field gear and edit
bays), to the knowledge required to garner excellent results. Naturally,
Ms. Davis has occasional questions as to how long it should actually take
to accomplish certain results (for those of you ... more
