Ha! Who WOULDN'T want to leave the frigid northland for Paradise?
Here is a little input. I'm sure our other local friends will be happy to pitch in.
1. Old Town is the be 'walk around' community... you can walk to most of the best restaurants, clubs, etc. - It can be a little loud, but it's FUN. The Meadows is right on the edge of Old Town and is also within walking distance of the fun... just a little longer walk. The Casa Marina area is also great, but you'll probably want a bicycle to get to Old Town spots. Of course, the whole island is only 1x4, so you can bike anywhere. Yes, there are GREAT companies that can help you find a condo or apartment while you look. By the way, this is a VERY good time to be looking... August and September and the hottest (and slowest) months of the year, and real estate deals are best then! I have a very good friend who is a realtor who could help you... I think he has a couple properties to rent, and he's fun. Bruce Moore at Broadway Realty:

2. There are some great lawyers in Key West and several of them are good friends of mine, too. Real estate law is BIG down there. Talk to Susan Cardenas at Stones and Cardenas 305-294-0252. Or, Jerry Coleman, 305-292-3095.
3. I'd look for something on the east end of Simonton or on White Street.. if you're aiming at Locals. Some great space with potential near the intersection of White and Simonton.
Hope that helps! And, welcome! We always love brain power in Key West!
