Cracker Barrel!
I don't know why I thought this was a big deal except I love Cracker Barrel breakfast.
Plus, judging by how they're always packed when you visit one along the interstate (or the one in Destin on HWY 98) I'm guessing lots more people will find this news interesting.
I'm a big supporter of local restaurants (we eat out alot!) and I mostly try to choose locally owned, non-chain restaurants... but, the Barrel has some good breakfast.
For anyone who's wondering where the location is I'm talking about - it's on the east end of Thomas Drive, across from the Navy Base. First, there was a La Quinta Inn... kinda stuck out by itself. Then they built a Burger King and a Bruster's Ice Cream next to it. Then the new Hooters. Now, there's all kinds of stuff being built, including the Cracker Barrel, a Taco Tex, a Sports Apparel Store (?) and one or two others that I can't remember.
The east end of the Beach is starting to catch up to everywhere else.
Also, I've noticed that the "strip" seems to have migrated west a little. Closer to Sharky's, Pier Park, etc. Anyone else notice that? It's where I constantly see the most traffic, the most pedestrians, the most full hotel parking lots...

I don't live down there but I know where Brusters is. We got some ice cream from there back in May. And there are a couple of cracker barrel restaurants here and they do a big business. Yum Yum. Pier Park is the place to be now. I don't think they could go much farther west without knocking out all the private beach homes and the Christian retreats. How is the reconstruction going on the Dan Russell Pier by the way? It is right across from Margaritaville.
