You need a surf rod 10ft or longer and 20-30lb test on your reel. Also, a rod holder that stands your rod straight up in the air is a good piece of equipment to have.

Go to wall mart and ask for a Gulf-rig, 3/0 or 4/0 hooks, and 4-6 oz triangle sinkers.

Hook your sinker to the swivel on the gulf rig closest to where you tie your line to the gulf rig, and place 1 hook on the remaining swivels. This is the rig I use.

You can catch the smaller sharks 10lbs and under using cut squid (also sold at wal-mart), but I would suggest going to a fish market and buying a whole bonita, spanish mackrel, or other oily fish and using them for cutbait.
