Swingin’ Medallions - Concerts by the Springs at Heritage Green
On Sunday, October 5, Heritage Sandy Springs will welcome The Swingin' Medallions to the Concerts by the Springs series. The famous "patched madras" singers will perform beach music favorites including their hits "Double Shot of My Baby's Love" and "Hey, Hey, Baby." The outdoor concert begins at 7 p.m. and is located at Heritage Green on the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn, 6110 Bluestone Road, Sandy Springs, GA., next to CityWalk.
Based in Greenwood, S.C., the original Swingin' Medallions began performing in 1962. The band members have changed throughout the years, but original member John McElrath is still performing today. Governor Mark Sanford recently awarded McElrath with "The Order of the Palmetto," the highest civilian honor awarded in South Carolina to recognize lifetime achievement and service. Swingin' Medallions' music can be described as beach music, frat rock, R&B, or shaggin' music.
"We play a lot of 60s horn-based music," drummer Robby Cox says. "With a four-piece horn section, this type of music is very family-oriented and appeals to people of all ages."
The concert is free and open to the public. Table seating for this concert is sold out. Concert goers are encouraged to arrive early and picnic with family and friends. Blankets and coolers are welcomed. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots. Slope's BBQ and Baskin-Robbins will be selling food and The Tasting Room will be onsite selling beer, wine and cocktails. Free popcorn will be provided by Keller Williams Realty First Atlanta. A balloon artist from Magic Man Entertainment will entertain children of all ages.
