Ok, this might only interest a few old Grunts like me, but the Army is going to have a Stryker on display in Centennial Park this Thursday.
What's a Stryker? "This is the Cadillac of armored vehicles," Victor Sands, head of the Stryker program, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It's the Army's newest armored fighting vehicle, and it's a radical new departure from older models. For one thing, it's got wheels instead of tracks. This isn't to be confused with a tank, it's not meant to go up against those 70 ton monsters. (The Stryker is named for two different Medal of Honor winners by that name.) |

There's always something going on at Centennial Park. They have turned that into something. I did not think it was a good idea at first. Now it looks like it may work out. The more they have odd things like this at the Park the more people will just go on a whim and see what's out there.

I wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of that thing. It looks pretty menacing.
I was watching 'Black Hawk Down' the other night and noticed that wheeled armored vehicles played a pretty big roll, as far as transporting troops, carrying the wounded, and providing cover fire for ground units. Can someone take a picture of the Stryker in Atlanta and post it online? I'd like to take a closer look at it. Thanks. |
