That's harsh. Looks like the repairs are going kinda slow... if at all...

i stayed at Club Destin Resorts last summer in August. i know they had closed down for some time to renovate due to the hurricanes. does anyone know how things are looking there? i would like to book another vacation there in august, but i'm not sure if it's looking crappy or not. thank you!

by the way, las year someone had suggested dining at the Island Steamer, and it was EXCELLENT! thanks!!!

Have Y'all ever been to the Majestic Sun? It's about a mile from the outlets, the people running the place are excellent and they have their own onsite rental company. There is also someone there 24 hours to help. We've been there a few times, and it just keeps getting better and better! The rental company we go through is JME Management.

I was near there in March and it was still closed. Call first. Most everything else is open (except Agean). Keep in mind it will be even more crowded since Navarre and points west are still not 100%

From everything I have read on line, things are back to normal for the most part. You might check on line at Destin Forum. I don't know the website, you can just google it. It has a wealth of info. There are many locals that respond to the questions.

Ummmm Rob, you will wait ANYWHERE in Destin, even if the food is terrible or just so-so for the prices paid. Yes, there are places in Destin that are not good and we laugh each and every time we see people waiting two hours with a beeper or pager to get in.

If $300 for a party of 5 scares you then I might suggest Cracker Barrel or perhaps places like Panera Bread or Mellow Mushroom.

For a hidden find go across the mid bay bridge, it ain't that far folks and turn right on 20 and go 12 miles to Nick's on the Bay. In Season they have hot blue crabs and are what old time Florida seafood is all about. It does get crowded at times but go early or later.

I agree, Sun Destin is dated, but we haven't there since May 2005, so maybe they have renovated. Plus, the condo we were in didn't have a washer/dryer in the room, we had to use a community one.

The Majestic Sun was wonderful! I think that would be our place of choice. Fairly new and clean.

To my knowlege, it hasn't been rebuild. Avoid staying in Destin unless you got money to waste. Go to Oaklossia Island (avoid the hotels there except for the radisson or whatever it's called now)

Check out Beacon Resorts, Abbot resorts, etc etc.

EVEN *gas* is cheaper on the island.

Contrary to other opinion, I live 45 mins. from Destin and just took a ride there to spend the day. It was definitely not a waste. The Island is always and always will be cheaper, because there is no comparison between the two. If you want a good party, go to "The Island," if you want to see beautful sights, unique artistry, great food, and shopping at its finest, Go To Destin. And for the record, cosidering just been through a Major Hurricane, Destin looks pretty darn GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be in destin first week of July. How is the beach after Alberto. Any damage from the high surf??

No. No damage. Remember to check out Oaklossia Island (the condos and/or the hotel there the old ramada inn.. it's a new name but a nice place)

It's cheaper and so is the gas.

Check out abbot and beacon resorts.

There are many places to stay on the Emerald Coast from South Walton to Navarre Beach. They all have their own special traits or benefits.
