any seaweed in July?
We are arriving July 9th staying a week, has anyone seen the water the past week and can tell me if there is seaweed at this time? We've been once when there was seaweed everywhere. Makes it hard to enjoy the water. Thanks so much to KeithGoesCoastal for the restaurant reviews! I'm making notes for our trip and appreciate the pointers. Also, is there a place to put our boat in near the Bay as you enter into Destin? We may bring our 21 foot boat. Thanks.

Seaweed
Actually, I was at the beach yesterday, and the water was beautiful. It's a little 'stirred up' from the beach renourishment efforts. After Tropical Storm Arlene, and, in anticipation of an active Hurricane Season, they are pumping tons of sand back up on the beach, but it should be settled down by the time you get here. They are already all the way to the very west end of the beach, past Schooners and pumping their way to St. Andrews State Park.
To keep an eye on the beach, check out the live cams at www.schooners.com Have fun! |

Thanks, Toni, I didn't know about the beach renourishment but am glad they are past
our place already or I hope they are. We're staying at Pelican Beach. Any advise on where to launch our boat there to hang out under the bridge in the bay? We always see tons of people there in waist deep gorgeous water having a ball there as you drive into Destin. |

Ooooops. I made a mistake... I thought I was in the Panama City Board when I wrote about the renourishment... sorry! Too much Holiday Partying! I don't know about Destin plans or progress on renourishment... as far as a place to launch your boat, I THINK you can launch at a couple places on Destin Harbor... at AJ's, probably, since they have dry storage and docking all along there. Check with them at www.ajs-destin.com
