Icon9 vacation this coming week

I was just curious to see if the weather is starting to look pretty bad yet, because my husband and I have reservations at a condo on the beach there for a week to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. At this point he is getting very nervous that we may have to cancel

The weather is actually great right now, but will begin to deteriorate late this weekend. I would keep your plans as long as you can. Unless Destin suffers a direct or near direct hit, Hurricane Dennis should only affect your trip for a couple days.

Dennis is still a ways off and could end up in Mexico or South Florida. However, if it appears Destin may be hit as Dennis gets closer, you may want to reschedule.

Good luck!

If it does hit...

I remember getting round the clock reports pretty much when Ivan hit last year right here. I would appreciate it if you would post the same if Dennis does hit. Those screen shots of the local weather radar kept my wife and I glued to the net. I hope it doesn't hit since I'll be back in October (92 days and counting).

Icon14 Vacations this coming week TOO!!!

Our family vacation is this coming next week too. We are to arrive on July 16. We all are watching the "Weather Channel" with hopes that Dennis plays out! Chances look slim!
Hope I will be able to catch the local news here about the beach and outcome.
Hope all is well and everyone stays safe. That is the important thing.
Coastlover.

We'll definitely keep everyone posted on the conditions here. Hopefully it weaken significantly before it hits anywhere.

The Hurricane Ivan thread last year got a lot of attention and hopefully helped some people who were concerned about the area for whatever reasons. I'll do something similar if Dennis does indeed head this way.

Cool

I'll be riding this one out in Niceville juts like I did Ivan. As long a power is on will try and keep posted up to date here.

Traffic here is light and no gas except down 20 East a bit. Regular only. 10 minute wait for a pump.

Wife is doing her duty today in the ER until 6PM. MAY send her and the kids to Atlanta BUT a bit worried about weather this evening.

If anyone has more close in weather knowledge about 6PM depart for Atlanta let me know.

Meanwhile God Bless and prayers are going out for safe travel, safety during the storm and safe return. Appreciate the same.

Cool

Still calm here and the roads are not crowded in town. Jst heard from travelers from Ft Walton to Montgomery...bumper to bumper BUT only four hours instead of three.

NO rooms to be found in Alabama, Tallahassee and Atlanta is getting booked too. 100 MPH winds, now looking at Ala/Fla state line for landfall.

First band of squalls moved in an hour ago. Typical summer storm.

Roads out seem to be much quieter today based on my listening.

Hurricane force winds are only 70 miles wide in the storm. Tropical Storm winds are 350 mile radius. Still seems track a bit further west of Ivans track.

Icon14 Thanks KeithGoesCoastal

Thanks for the update. It appears ( on the weather channel) that Dennis is further west than first believed. I don't know what to wish for, I don't want anyone to have to go through Dennis.
I want to come to the beach so bad.
I just wish it would go away, vanish!!! Wishful thinking, I know!
When the shark attacks were going on last week, everyone ask me if I was still going on my vacation, "of course I am" it is just like anything else, you have to use common sense and pay attention. Dennis has given my friends more ammo for asking me, "you still going to the beach?" "of course I am."
Power of positive thinking!!!!!!!!

It's all God's creation and we are just a speck eh?

Stay safe and yes it appears farther west now SO FAR.

Prayers for my wife and kids as they leave now for Atlanta.

More to come.

Thanks for the updates Keith. We really appreciate the help keeping everyone informed. Stay safe.

Not much to talk about in PCB right now... but check the Hurricane Dennis Report from Panama City Beach later and I'll keep you guys up to date from my side of the pond.

Not much new from the western branch. Storm will be stronger than anticipated. West of us path still in the track BUT...you never know.

We are on a steady drizzle now and they also mentioned landfall POSSIBLY later on in the day. With the new news I am going to decide whether to jump in the Beamer and head east and/or or north in the wee hours of the AM. Tough call. Hope Waffle House is open SOMEWHERE if I do go. AND it has to have the CD Jukebox with Buffett's "Trying to reason with hurricane season".

That with some good strong java and the ham and cheese omlette platter ought to do it. Gee, maybe I will go now.

More later.

This might solve the big fight in Destin regarding beach renourishment. If this puts the Gulf right at someone's back door (literally) they may decide a little extra sand between their dwelling and the beach might not be so bad.
