Icon14 Aerial photos of Destin

Here's the NOAA site with Destion aerial photos. Very cool. You can see in them how dark the water is right now. Just click in the little boxes. You can zoom in a little after the resulting picture fully loads.

I was able to locate Pelican Bay in this one. You can easily use Big Kahuna (waterpark) as a landmark.

Those are amazing photos... I looked at some of the hpotos of the Grayton Beach aera in South Walton and you can see a bunch of houses that have had the beach eroded right up to them... and some right out from under them.

I've seen those. Very bad stuff there. You are in Panama City Beach area, right? How's the water there? As black as it is in Destin?

Water in PC

The water is not as dark in PC... clearing up in some areas faster than others, depending upon currents.

You can get an idea from the Live Cams we have here on tripsmarter, and/or by going directly to:

www.schooners.com
www.spinnakerbeachclub.com

I'm looking at the Bay right now in PC, and it is COMPLETELY crystal clear. Shouldn't take long for everything to be back to normal here... I'm betting on the weekend being perfect.

Cool, Toni! We are coming into Destin on the 23rd and would like to see it a little clearer than it is now.

Okay, I found it. Click on the furthest box to the lower left. When the picture opens look for a "V" shaped building toward the lower right with the top of the "V" facing the gulf. I'm pretty sure the one directly below that is the Inlet Reef Club. It's kind of an "L" shaped building with the Bottom of the "L" facing the gulf.

Here's a direct link to the view I was looking at:

hi there. um, are you planning on heading down there? We have been trying to reach them, but they were apparently only allowed back on the island yesterday, for the first time since the storm went through. It doesn't look good down there. I would call first. I last heard that as of Wednesday, they still had a boil water order on Holiday isle. I would be interested to hear what you find/find out when you get there. the phones don't seem to be working yet either.

Hope all is well for you... enjoy

did you see the aereal photos that Guido posted? there is one of Inlet Reef (which we are also supposed to be going to the week of August 6th) and the Jetty East and surrounding homes and condos and they look pretty wrecked. The water in th epool at Inlet is black, as is the hot tub water... Looks like the pier is washed out.... It is just hard to say how it really is down there without being there or talking to someone who is already down there. I love this site though, i have found out more here than anywhere else.

hey Elizabeth,

We have been calling and emailing for the past week= no replies. The answering service told us that somebody would be calling on Thursday (yesterday) but, unfortunately we have heard nothing. I am disappointed that there is no updates on the website and that we have heard nothing. My family and are just waiting to hear more news. Hopefully we will hear something today, if not we may have to vacation somewhere else. Thanks again for your reply! I'll post anything that I hear.

NOAA has some great products. However, the direct overhead view makes it difficult to see the true impact. I have been flying along this coast shooting aerials for several years. If you want to see some Dennis related stuff go to http://photosflorida.com/images/dennis/index.html
