Icon5 How is the fishing in Late July?

I have a boat chartered for July 29th. What type fish should we be catching? Also should we drop-line or troll? I would espically like to land a dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) if at all possible.

hey elizabeth, I don't think bubbletoe is referring to "flipper" the mammal, but rather mahi mahi, the fish. check this link for more info: http://saltfishing.about.com/od/dolphin/a/aa041023b.htm

not a problem.... I've had that same reaction in the past. Someone took the time to tell me the difference, I'm just passing it along.
I LOVE Mahi!

most charters are for bottom fishing (grouper, snapper, amberjack). trolling takes a little more skill and usually has to be requested. call your captain to confirm.

I prefer bottom fishing anyway because you end up with more fish. maybe some boats will do both.

and anytime is a good time for fishing ;)

Thumbs up Thanks Wes

I have talked to the charter but not the captan. Hopefully they will be prepared for us to do both since I would like to catch a couple big ones. Elizabeth- the dolphin or Mahi Mahi is wonderful on the grill. A little meatier than some fish, it has a clean ritch flavor that is not very fishy to my palat.
