Beach restoration

Does anyone have any info on the beach restoration? I always go to Holiday Isle. I heard that they could start after the turtle season was over. Also any info on when the Harbor Landing project is due for completion?

Unfortunately, Holiday Isle is not included in the restoration - neither is any of the area west of Henderson Beach.

Harbor Landing is slated to be completed in July of this year. The construction seems to be coming along well.

Compared to last May? That would have been before Dennis and Katrina. I haven't personally stood in front of the beach at Oceana, but there has not been any restoration so the beach is more eroded than it would have been last May.

Currently, the only section that has been restored is in the Sandestin area, but work is proceeding toward the west as we speak.

Has no one in destin been to the beach or just not responding to the threads. I like to know what the beachs look like are they all washed up or does it like the same as years past. Has anyone been to Sterling Sands?

The area around Sterling Shores is not part of the Beach restoration. The beach restoration project is only going as far west as Henderson State Park. I have not been in that area since New Years. I will be down again in a couple of weeks. At News Year I recall the beach in that area as OK - nothing horrible or great. Just the same as usual. Hope this helps - if no one else responds - check back in a few weeks and I will let you know what I find after I return.

Thanks for the information and thanks for checking on that area for me. Hope it has not changed much but i have heard that some areas have lots of wash out. We are just hoping for lots of white sand and sun and a great time, like we have spent so many years in the past. Thanks again

I was wondering if anyone in destin has been to the beachs lately. Was wondering what shape they are in and how much room between the water and the condos. We are going to sterling Sands, if anyone have been in that area i would be very thankful for a reply. Thanks

Destin/Holiday Isle Beaches

May 10-13, 2006 - I stayed at Holiday Surf & Racquet Club on Holiday Isle. Walked the beach from Sandpiper Cove (east) to the Jetty inlet to Destin Harbor (west). We were pleased with the nice soft white sugar sand. Beach is fairly wide in front of most condos (at least 2-3 traffic lanes wide). But the area to sit on beach was restricted because there were large trucks filled with sand driving west to east about every half hour; then trucks driving back empty east to west. This meant that we needed to sit up on the raised berm of sand next to the walkway in front of condo, or could sit down near waters edge. Occasionally a bulldozer would go by and smooth out the big ruts caused by the trucks. Overall the beach looked better each day we were there, so we ignored the truck noise and applauded the work they were doing. The gulf was absolutely gorgeous, with crystal clear water and we saw lots of dolphins near shore.
If you want a beautiful beach, by all means return to Holiday Isle and ignore any ongoing work! Hope this helps!
