sure appreciate this resource.

will be travelling to destin with my parents, in their 70's, in mid feb. i have read all the restaurant threads and what i did on my vacation threads.

my folks value value above most everything when it comes to restaurants. they are from chicago and typically eat supper out for <10. from the reviews that i read, only anglers seems to fit that price range, although i think they'd be open to one splurge; sounds like they would enjoy staffs the best. also might try for main meal @ lunch since that's usually a little lower.

they are interested in history, real estate, antique and junk stores. any suggestions that might include these interests for day trips? not anglers, doubt they would enjoy boating expedition unless it was extrememly reasonably priced, and more for the joy of being in the boat than the catching of the fish :)

directions to seaside and rosemary beach?

You and your folks should have a great time.

Personally I recomment Staffs for a splurge. You can go to www.emeraldcoast.com and go to the dining section. They have a menu to Staff's. Not only does Staff's have the freshest seafood, but it is a piece of Northwest Florida history so you can kill two birds with one stone. Note that Staff's is only open for Dinner. I am a cheapskate but I am willing to splurge at Staffs. The employees, food quality, and history is worth it.

The Beachwalk Cafe is a great gourmet restaurant. At lunch, the entrees are under $10 and make it a great value (not to mention the view).

Several restaurants such as Fisherman's Wharf and The Lucky Snapper are running lunch specials this time of the year.

Seaside and Rosemary Beach are both along the highway known as 30-A. Go east of Destin on US98. A few miles after you pass Sandestin 30-A will fork off to the right. This is a very senic drive that will take you through Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach (another neat place to explore), Seaside, Seagrove Beach, and Rosemary Beach. This is a great drive with much to see.

Hi Kathleen... you'll enjoy everything about Destin, and the suggestions awindsor made are right on the mark.

The only things I can add are that the Boathouse Oyster House is a good place for a cheap but good meal. And the view is pretty good, too.

If your folks enjoy history you should take a look at the Indian Mounds in Ft. Walton (just across from Destin). It's got a great little museum that shows the history of the Indians of the area. It's more interesting than it sounds.

If they're up to a little drive, run over to Pensacola (about :45 minutes). Ft. Pickens is on Pensacola Beach, it's one of the places they kept Geronimo! It's a real step back into time.

While you're in pensalcoa, go to the Naval Air Station's museum. It is without a doubt the best military museum in the country. They've got planes from WWI and WWII, Korea and Vietnam and just a ton of other historical aircraft.

There are also several archeological digs going on around Pensacola.

I second the 30-A suggestion. That's a neat drive. If they like plantations and things, they ought to try Eden state gardens. It's just outside of Destin and is really cool. Don't know anything about Dufiank.
