Delta is starting jet service (50 seat regional jet) from Dallas to Ft. Walton/Destin the third week of August with easy connections to the entire southwest United States.

Personally I'm excited because it is going to shave 2-3 hours off of connecting in Atlanta from the west. And as more service comes into the area, the obnoxious ticket price seems to be dropping a little bit.

The 50 seat CRJ jet aircraft they are using aren't bad. A bit on the small side, but every seat is a window or aisle and you can stand up in them. They are a lot more quiet and quicker than the prop planes that still serve much of the area.

That's outstanding news, thanks for passing it along Ted! With Delta flying non-stop from Dallas to Ft. Walton Beach, businesses might want to start thinking about marketing towards our Lone Star State friends...

is there a direct flight from atlanta? what's the flight time and cost?

There are flights from Atlanta to both Destin and Panama City every 1-2 hours all day long.

Tripsmarter has an Airlines link on their main page http://www.tripsmarter.com down in the left hand lower side under Accommodations section.

That would probably be a good place to check airfares and flight times. You can enter prospective dates fo travel between two cities and find out how much and when the flights are.

Delta has a special on round trips from Raleigh/Durham to Ft. Walton until the 5th - $168. 'Course there are restrictions, etc.
