Thumbs up Amazing Destin!!

I was just on the internet checking out the destinwebcam and ran into this forum. It is crazy these days how there is a forum for just about everything. I race motocross over here in Texas and I am a member of the forum for racing in my area. Anyways, my family and I have been vacationing to Destin for the past two years and it is all I think about the whole year until we return there. All my friends like to go to PCB, which is nice, but I am more for the layed back, relaxing vacation. Destin is truly a paradise of its own. We usually stay a week or so and the whole drive back to Texas I am depressed. It is about a 12 hour drive for us to get to Destin. I live in a town called Lufkin, about 2 hours north of Houston. I can't remember the exact name of the condos that my family and I stay in every year. They are directly across the street from Pompano Joe's. I think it is the fourth condo on the left. I think it is called the dominican? The beaches in Destin are one of a kind and the restaraunts are awesome! My favorite has got to be McGuires (sp?). The food is great and the plates are huge!! The money hanging all around is kinda neat too. We usually go charter boat fishing on the windstalker. Captain Ron is a really nice guy and we always catch lots of fish. It would be neat to live in Destin, or Florida period. I think if I was to live anywhere other than Texas, it would have to be Florida, or Alaska during the Summer!! Actually, the fastest motocross racer in the world is from Florida, Ricky Carmichael. Anyways, I could go on forever about what we do in Destin and how wonderful it is, but then people would feel like they were reading a book!! Can't wait to return...................

Thumbs up Destin

Kalani you sound like most of our visitors here. Two weeks during vacation time is not enough. If you ever decide to live here you'll be happy to know that we have a pretty good moto-cross track about 20 miles away near the I-10 freeway, half way between Crestview and Pensacola. They have races during the spring, summer and fall mostly from Friday to Sunday. All age groups race there and it gets pretty hot. So besides the Beach, Food and Nightlife there is moto-cross as well. Next time you visit check them out.

Hey VidPro, do you happen to remember the name of the track? While we were there, we went to the little bike shop next to Sockeye's and the guy working there told us that there were a few motocross tracks within an hour or so from there. We thought about bringing our bikes this May, but it is a long way to haul that much weight and equipment. Who knows, maybe we will find the space. It is just so hard to stay away from the beaches when you are like me and never really get to see them. Has anything new popped up since last May? Restaurants, entertainment, etc? Only four months away, can't wait!!!

Talking tracks near Destin

Hey Kalani. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. All of the holiday stuff and the rushing about. Now that I'm back at it full time I read your latest thread. As of this moment I'm sorry but I don't remember the name of the moto-cross track. I will do some checking around and will get it for you. It's about an hour drive from Destin Near the I-10 exit for Milton, just about 15 miles east of Pensacola. As for new places to eat or entertainment in the Destin area, there is a new eatery called Solei et Luna. Not sure of the spelling, but this place just opened a month ago. It's right on highway 98 in the heart of Destin. Very good place to eat. It's a large place with bar and has been packed lately, which is kind of odd for this time of year because 99% of the tourists are not here right now. So the locals are really loading it up. And that is a good thing. However when the season does kick in it will probably be as crowded as ever. But when your place is that good then you should expect that most people will want to eat there. Not too expensive either. Just drive down 98 it's a little bit past the Mac "D"s. And the entertainment thing hasn't changed since last season. However if you are a Smooth Jazz music fan you should plan on visiting Destin on April 12&13th. The Seabreeze smooth Jazz festival takes place that weekend and this year it promises to be FANTASTIC. They are planning to hold it at the outdoor concert stage at Big Kahunas water park. The line up for this years show will include, The Rippingtons, Boney James, Rick Braun, Peter White and Brian Culbertson. If you are into this type of music then you'll instantly recognize the artists I've listed. If not, you should give it a try. It's not the standard Jazz that most people are familiar with. This music combines contemporary rhythms with killer sax solos and guitar rips. In the last few years we have averaged about 1500 people per day for the weekend. Plenty of great music, drink and food. Ticktes are very reasonable, $35 I think for general admission and $65 and up for the VIP tent , wine and food and a meet and greet with the musicians. check out the seabreeze web site at www.wsbz.com in the next few weeks for more details and to order tickets. And dont forget the Thunder Beach bike ralley at Edgewater on front beach road in the first weekend of May and the in September. enjoy and I'll try to get the name of the track for you.

Talking Foung the MX track info

Kalani. Here is the information I just found on the track you're interested in. It's called the West Florida MX Park. It sits on 45 acres and is located down in a clay pit. Former AMA Professional Craig Woolard is the owner and the nearest town is Milton. Contact number is (850) 623-6038. Give them a call. I hope this helps.
