Went out for a bit of Mexican food with the fam the other night at CoCo's Mexican, right on 98 as you head east toward 393. Decided to try them instead of Don Pedro's this time, which is just west of them.
CoCo's is bigger inside, has a bar with TV's and three or more dining rooms throughout. A nice crowd for a Thursday night was filling the place up. The hostess was very friendly and seated us immediately BUT we asked to move due to a table of 20 or more in more of a party mood than us.;0) We moved to another dining area where we were greeted in a friendly manner by our male server. Chips and salsa came quick as did the order for drinks. Did not order anything fancy drinkwise BUT they do have a nice selection of beers, Dos Equis on draft too, at decent prices. Also, margs and sangria as well as the normal non imbibing fare. The salsa was good. Chips were thin and crisp too. Two baskets later we got our cheese dip, then bean dip and were on our way. Cheese dip great although the "bowl" could be a bit bigger. Bean dip was a plate of beans with the cheese dip in the middle. Better value to me and also good if you are a bean fan. We ordered a steak burrito, chicken enchilada plate, chesse and bean quesadilla and ehchilada/tamale combo. Steak in the burrito was very tasty and not your norm for this dish. Tender and full of flavor with a grilled taste. My son loved his chicken enchiladas and they came with lettuce and salsa on top, not my son's fave BUT I took the toppings for my combo plate. There were four and filled him up which is not small task these days. My combo was also good with rice and beans. Loved the rice. I got one of each on the tamale and enchilada, beef along with rice and beans. My daughter had dumbed down her quesadilla and liked it well enough. She is the less elaborate eater in the family. Drinks were kept full as we enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was fun and the meal was above average for us. I will say that I normally order Fajitas BUT here they were a bit too expensive at $13.95 to $16.95. Not in line with other places in the area. I also though that the meals were just a tad on the pricey side for the delivery, maybe 10% or so. $8.95 for a tamale, enchilada and beans/rice is usually a $7 to $8 plate in our experience. The service was great, the food a good, the atmosphere what we expect for Mexican food and the price a tad high so I am going to give this night on the town a solid 8 on a scale of 10. And at those prices, I will have to look elsewhere for the fajitas or go for lunch. Try CoCo's, it is solid family fun. KeithGoesCoastal www.keithgoescoastal.com |
