Thumbs up Nim's International-DESTIN

This one you MUST try if you are an ethnic food freak of ANY sort.

First of all, it is located in Destin, right across from Destin Commons in the Publix Shopping Center, next to Chans Wine World. Easy to find BUT not easy to choose from the extensive menu that will be handed to you when you arrive.

Park and I stopped in for early dinner yesterday. I was having trouble convincing Park, the 15 year old gastronome, that we should go in and try it BUT I finally won when I said here or we will go home and warm up an Oscar Mayer Cheese Dog. Boy is he glad he went. He proclaimed it his new fave in the area by meals end.

The menu is......Vietnamese, Thai, Indian and more. The variety is pretty amazing and since these three are on are favorite types of food already, we knew we had good things coming. Indian in Destin, yes!!!

On to the food. We ordered the fresh summer roll which is the non fried version with pork, shrimp, vermicelli and yummy herbs and vegetables inside of nice tender light rice paper. Served with a peanut sauce and the order was a two roll bursting at the seams delight. I add a bit of the hot vietnamese pepper sauce to my peanut sauce for a spicy dipper, Park eats his with nothing on it. Either way, at $3.95 this is easily one of the best and healthiest apps around. So good, you want to order one to go.

Manager, Joe Ganatra came over and we talked over some of the menu items for entrees. Park of course had to have his Orlando trip staple, Butter Chicken, off the Indian section. I on the other hand was looking at the Vietnamese dish with Grilled Pork, Rice Vermicelli and a host of crunchy greens, carrots, cucumbers. Also this one is served with a plate of fresh cilantro, bean sprouts, lime, basil and fish sauce for dipping.

Joe had other plans for me however and talked me into the Lemongrass Chicken, another Vietnamese item with grilled chicken, peppers, onions. This dish came with fried rice on the side. Simple and delish.

I had a Singha and Park got his usual Dr. Pepper.

Park's Butter Chicken(Makhani) came out in a Japanese style lunchbox dish with a nice portion of the entree, two small egg rolls, basmati rice and two pieces of luscious Naan Indian bread. IMMEDIATELY I knew I had to swipe some Naan.

My dish was piled high on a platter and was very fresh tasting. The blend of flavors was mild and I again added some of my red pepper sauce for a kick. You can order it how you like on the spicy hot scale BUT my recommendation is to order medium and add to it since you cannot take it out once it is spiced.

Park begged for some of my fried rice and I traded him for some of his basmati and a small piece of Naan. The fact that he talked very little and cleaned his plate let me know we would be back soon.

It was going so good as we ate and chatted with Joe, we called the wife and she was driving by the place when she answered so she stopped in and got the rolls and the Vermicelli dish I had wanted to go and when we got home from Pink Panther she was just finishing it up. She too is now a "Nim's Regular".

So, if you want Indian Curry, Pad Thai or Five Spice Broiled Duck, Nim's is the place for you. They also serve lunch and they will be serviing us again very soon.

Tell Joe and his lovely wife hello for me when you go by IF you beat me there!

Nim's receives a rating of 8.9 out of 10 from this family on our first trip according to Park and he is a tough reviewer.
