I always read tripsmarter before I go to Destin. Last year we stayed at Sandpiper Cove on Holiday Isle. You get the harbor and the ocean front for a better value than staying in a high rise. We were there in November and alot of the hurricane clean up was done. Also, a very nice resort with pools, golf, tennis and still in the heart of Destin. I hear beach restoration will begin soon and the beach was still beautiful in Nov. Don't forget to use VRBO for your rentals.

Also try out Beacon Resorts on Oaklossia Island. Your between destin and FWB there (and gas is usually cheaper there, too) so it's a nice little area.

Stay away from the hotels there that looked runned down because they are!

And I agree with you, Rob, there are some really nice places on the Island and probably the best beaches in the panhandle.
