A fun activity is to visit Wal Mart or Ace Hardware among others...pick up four or more crab nets, nuts for weights, a ball of string and stop in at Publix or Wal MArt for some chicken necks and head to the local pier ir dock nearby that allows fishing.
Tie the weights into the nets, the chicken necks too then attach string to each in order to lower them into the water and sit on the bottom to wait for some blue crab avctivity. Don't check them too often and either bring your fishing rod or a good book with you for the in between time.
Be careful when you catch a crab and it is also a good idea to have a net on a stick too so you can catch those smart but greedy crabd who hang on outside the net. Put 'em in a cooler....catch at least a dozen or so and MAKE SURE they are bog ewnough to keep and cook. If not as big as an adult males hand, throw them back as well as females with the orange eggs on their
backside. This leaves some for later and for your nect trip down.
Our rule is to throw them back unless we have at least nine OR give them to someone who has enough to make a good meal out of it.
It is also fun and educational for the kids and a bit different activity. You might catch a blowfish or some other odd creatures too and can discuss and then google it when you get home.
Of course if you catch enough....grab some Zatarains Crab Boil, lemons and boil those suckers up and sit down with the crackers at a table full of newspaper and crack open a Barqs Root Beer in the bottle. Complement with boiied shrimp and yum yum.
Careful with the crabs, if those pinchers get ahold of you, OUCHH! Have fun!
